The impacts of reading fiction survey for research paper
date

1) Please correct the grammar.
2) Is there a reason for the many age divisions under 40 while those above are all one category? I cannot see why you would wish to have quite that many divisions under 40, but of course you can always combine them later. Whereas if you wished to see whether there was a difference of opinion between gen X and baby boomers, for example, you would have no way to separate the data.
3) I do not feel that you will learn about the effects of fiction on people from this survey but only some of their opinions on it. Perhaps this is what you’re after, and you probably would need a study other than a survey to find that out (like experimental groups, randomly assigned to read or not, and have before and after surveys and perhaps other tests or evaluations).
4) I did not feel that the questions were well considered, that how I feel about reading and how it effects me was not represented and the answers were too... simplistic or narrow.
These are just my thoughts as both a reader and a scientist (albeit in cell biology). Good luck on your project!

I always smile at surveys by kids who think 40 is some undiscovered country that they'll never have to contend with.

To start off by being completely honest here, out of all the replies I've received on my survey yours is most definitely the best one.
1) I know and I feel really bad about the grammatical mistakes. I've tried my best to avoid since I'm still an ESL student and I've rushed while writing the questions to finish quickly but after publishing it I found tons of mistakes that I can't help edit now since it's too late already, I'm deeply sorry for that.
2) about the ages it's because my initial target was the respondents who were between ages 17 and 40 to compare these three age divisions specifically. now I've come to realize that I made a big mistake since the majority of respondents ended up being either 17 and younger or 40 and older it's also something out of my hand now.
3) About the opinions, I think from my personal point of view that opinions can be kind of easier to analyze when considering the other questions and compare the answers with other responses, while real scientific research papers require real-life experiments. For example, I don't know if you heard about a study called Reading Literary Fiction Improves Theory of Mind in this study the researchers' method is completely different but it's mainly because their study is scientific so they need more than a small survey with few questions like mine which also will mostly serve me and few other classmates in my ESL course and no one beyond that.
4) Yes you're also right about this one, it's related to the first point I mentioned which is because I was rushing while writing the questions I ended up with questions that have lower quality than what I've originally planned to write but I'm not gonna be harsh on myself since these were the best questions I could come up within a short time considering writing a survey for the first time so...
Erin, I feel extremely happy for your thoughts and for your overall reply. This is really helping me improve in the future and I really appreciate everything you've written and also giving me a time of your day. I can't thank you enough

I'm 19 and I'm sorry if I gave this impression but that's not my thoughts at all, thanks anyway

Surveys are also very difficult to write. About 1990, I wrote one for GEnie users (an old pre-Internet service) & was surprised how many had a 'color' monitor. Bad wording. I should have used 'monochrome' since a lot of the screens were green & white. Many considered that color. Sigh. Live & learn.

thank you, that's really nice of you to mention, I've been studying English for 8 years now and I know mine kinda sucks taking in account that I've been studying it for this long but I'm working big time on it these days.
And about the bad wording, I can relate to that now because I've noticed how it really does affect the results, thank you for your advice Jim.
