We're on a roll this month, because a second author has answered our interview request to enhance your reading experience and enjoyment of our group read, Uniquely Unwelcome. We're always grateful when the authors write us back, because our list of questions is l-o-n-g so we can dig under the surface and get to know both our stories and the people who wrote them.
Thank you, Brandy, for taking the time to answer our questions. And now, without further ado, Brandy Nacole, author of Uniquely Unwelcome:
Hello Lovers of Paranormal, huge thanks for this opportunity!
Here is a little about me. Happy readings!
1. What books have most influenced your life?
As a young girl my nights and days were filled with Goosebump tales. I got 'the look' from my mother a lot when she would catch me reading late into the night and school was the next day. In the sixth grade I was introduced to Lord of the Rings and Anne Rice by my aunt, she's my go-to when it comes to books.
2. How do you develop your plots and characters?
Really it depends on the story. With one of my series I started with the characters and then the plot. With another one of my series I started with the plot then the characters. No matter what though, I do write out a detailed outline of each book once I have it all worked out so I have a guide when wanting to add or change an idea.
3. Tell us about your Lovers of Paranormal book?
Uniquely Unwelcome is about a girl named Racquel who has been bullied her whole life because of her unique hybrid blood. In a world where she shouldn't exist, she fights against the odds not only to survive, but also to save her sister. Embarking on a journey around the world, with those who don't trust her, she finally discovers herself.
4. We all need a hero! Tell us about your protagonist(s)? Was there a real-life inspiration behind him or her?
Racquel is a strong-willed girl, having had to learn how to survive on her own at a young age. But no matter how independent she is, Racquel is still lost with knowing exactly who she is. Being bullied her whole life and refusing to learn about her true nature, well, a walking hurricane is the best way to describe her and the storm of emotions swirling inside. But one act of kindness from a guy and a few hard questions from the Fae Queen has her batting her eyelashes and facing true reality. It was fun writing about Racquel and seeing her grow and begin to understand herself.
5. A good villain is hard to write. How did you get in touch with your inner villain? Was there a real-life inspiration for him/her/it?
Ah, the villain. Writing the villain is one of my favorite aspects of writing a story, which is why in my Spiritual Discord Series I delve a little more into my villain and share his point of view. It's the perfect way to vent your frustration.
9. What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
Researching the different cities and writing about them were fun, but my favorite city to write about was London. Not only is their a battle scene but Racquel also scales up Big Ben with a screaming and unwilling human clinging to her for dear life.
11. Is there a message in your novel that you hope readers will grasp?
My hope for readers when they read Uniquely Unwelcome is that they understand each person is unique in their own ways, that it's okay to be different, and that true acceptance is not found around you but from within you.
12. What are your future project(s)?
I'm currently working on the third book in my Spiritual Discord Series, Darkest Reaches. I also have a stand alone novel about a haunted town I've been working on. Oh, and I outlined another series just the other day. It may not be in the works until next year, but it's coming.
13. If you couldn’t be an author, what would your ideal career be?
A storm chaser or traveling researcher.
14. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to the Lovers of Paranormal community members?
Thanks for all the support you show to the authors you love. Without you guys, authors would be nothing. I've been a member of LoP for a while, although I'm not as active as I would like to be, and I can say this group is filled with some awesome people. You guys are the greatest!
