Silvana (silvaubrey) Since Goodreads Awards is a travesty, I'd like to know your pick for best fantasy novel you read this year that was published on/after Jan 1st.

My pick is City of Miracles by Robert Jackson Bennet. A very close tie with Assassin's Fate by Robin Hobb but the earlier book left more impression.

Coby Heitz | 16 comments Kings of the Wyld would be my pick. I didn't read a lot of the other nominations though. But was obviously just a big popularity contest.

Earl (lordbishop08) | 11 comments Kings of the Wyld for me so far. Still have much reading to do...Hi-Ho-Hi-Ho...

message 4: by Heather (new)

Heather (bruyere) Sorry, I liked A Court of Wings and Ruin.

Honestly this year I had read almost none of the books that were published this year. Not sure how that happened. I am hoping that The Stone Sky will be the best of 2017. I will read it soon.

For me it was The Court of Broken Knives, and Skullsworn. Both fantastic for very different reasons.

1st Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson at the top
2nd Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames
3rd The Stone Sky by NK Jemisin

Silvana (silvaubrey) I must be the only one here who hated Kings of the Wild LOL

Martin Owton | 18 comments Kings of the Wyld for me too though I did not read many 2017 novels

Bogdan | 5 comments The first place it`s a tie:
Sins of Empire (Gods of Blood and Powder #1) by Brian McClellan- He`s back in the game!!!
and
The Iron Circlet (Chronicles of the Black Gate #4) by Phil Tucker - Amazing ending to an amazing fantasy series!

2.With Blood Upon the Sand (The Song of the Shattered Sands #2) by Bradley P. Beaulieu - Another good series in development...

3. RecipeArium by Costi Gurgu - A different kind of fantasy...

I love Sins of Empire alot! Still need to read Skullsworn..

Drsilent | 7 comments It really was a travesty... Fantasy and sci-fi, both.

I voted for The Stone Sky out of what was on the roster. Have not finished reading Oathbringer so couldn't really vote for it, but I have no doubt that it will continue to be excellent. Could definitely put City of Miracles up there too. Red Sister was good but a step below these in my opinion. Did not care for the latest Hobb at all.

Dezideriu Szabo | 3 comments The Fall of Dragons by Miles Cameron, The Unholy Consult by R Scott Bakker, Dins of Empire by Brian McClellan and best debut, The Nine bt Tracy Townsend.
And Goodreads Awards, what a great dissapointment...

Bogdan | 5 comments I`ve tried Kings of the Wyld or Staveley, but I didn`t resist long with the reading.

Just finished The Fall of Dragons by Miles Cameron, a good one, but I felt that the previous ones were more intricate. Still, a must read to end the series..

City of Miracles was ok, but for the main ideea I had the impression it was a little recycled :)

Dunno if this is a typo or not, but there is a book 5 in the Black Gate series titled White Song, that's the ending to the series. I can't wait to start this series honestly, heard so many amazing things about it

message 17: by Kieron (new)

Kieron I've read 4 fantasy books released this year. Here are my top three :-

1. Sins of Empire (Gods of Blood and Powder, #1) by Brian McClellan Sins of Empire
2. Kings of the Wyld (The Band, #1) by Nicholas Eames Kings of the Wyld
3. Age of Assassins (The Wounded Kingdom #1) by R.J. Barker Age of Assassins

Oh! You`re right, sir! My mistake! Yes, it`s the fourth one!
But, in fact, the last one was good, but like it has happened with the Red Knight series by Miles Cameron, the book before the last was a little better than that. :)
The Black Gate was a Big, Big, surprise coming from a low profile writer. It`s definitely a page turner. Get your hands on it asap! ;)
