Zakiya (renegademuse) | 5 comments The story is a YA (I think) and is about this guy who moves to a small town and a girl who lives in the town. When he moves to town they both get powers, he can read minds and she can see the future. They use their powers to save a truck driver (???). There’s a girl with a name along the lines of Melody (she has red hair) who is kinda a bully to the female main character. The female main character has a cousin who she is best friends with and they're really close. I distinctly remember him describing their relationship like two female lions. The female main character then dyes her hair red, like the Melody chick and dresses like her too, in an attempt to be attractive cause he is giving her all this attention and bringing her flowers at lunch (the cousin thinks wow she looks just like melody and he accidentally answers out loud yeah). When she realizes he’s only using her for the "power high" they get when they're together she becomes super vengeful and dyes her hair brown again and dresses more elegant but still sexy. She then refuses to eat because he feels what she feels and he buys her food and such so he can stop feeling the pain. She even gets her period and refuses to take painkillers just to hurt him. The cousin has a boyfriend who is a Hokey player but really likes to draw and the male main character encourages him to pursue that and they become friends. The male main character then decides to move away to the city with his brother and female main character sees a vision of it and goes to stop him. Somewhere in between, we learn that her mom and another guy had the same powers but when they took credit for saving someone the person died the next day, and when the guy left town her powers disappeared. So the female main character goes to the guy and tells him why is he leaving, his powers will disappear and he says he doesn’t want the powers or any of it unless he can be with her so he’d rather leave. She forgives him and they get together.

Shelby's suggestion of Powers by Deborah Lynn Jacobs matches your description. What do you think?

When Adrian's dad moves the family to Rocky Waters, Ontario, the 11th grader feels angry and out of place. Then he meets Gwen, with whom he feels a powerful, mysterious connection. Her presence empowers him to hear other people's thoughts; his presence allows her to see tragic events in the future. The psychic duo tries to rescue people from impending tragedies.

Some Goodreads reviewers say, "Gwen is what every girl doesn’t want to be in high school, invisible. Except she loves being invisible, she is a Watcher. She observes everyone else and enjoys being in the background. She writes for her town newspaper ... her best friend is her cousin, Joanna. Lately she has been having this same reoccurring dream with this boy that she doesn’t even know… Adrian is automatically attracted to Joanna and Gwen doesn’t want anything to do with him. As Gwen and Adrian spend more time together, they both realize they cant live without each other, unless they want to be unhappy."

Quotes from the book: From the tracks, the driver of the truck would see only fog. "Hey, we gotta warn him," Joanne yelled, wrenching open the car door. | "Artist guy on the school hockey team?" "So? Why not?" "Wrong image."
