Zaz | 2969 comments Great list :)
I loved Warcross, The Hate U Give, The Sun is also a star and The Night Circus. Dark Matter was also very good :)
1984 is on my TBR, I hope I'll finally find enough motivation to read it next year.

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments 1984 is a short book.I read it this year. I found the beginning slow but the middle more interesting. I can't sayI loved it but I'happy I checked it off the list.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I struggled with 1984 in the beginning, but it definitely got better. The ending is awesome. It’s certainly on the dry side though!

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments I am starting to feel intimidated by 1984!

message 6: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments It's definitely worthwhile! I'm glad I read it - it's still very relevant today.

This is so smart. I hadn't thought about choosing categories... 52 books is daunting, but you're doing it right!

On another note, I read 1984 this year and found it... not terrible to read, but also not everything I ever wanted it to be. I finished it, but meh.

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments Done with 8. An "own voices" book, I read The Hate U Give ... I wish I knew this one was going to be the BotM for February so I had waited, but anyway I took many notes.

I gave it 5 stars, although I didn't really love it ... It's just that I cannot stop thinking about the book. I am really excited with the idea of discuss it in the BotM.

I'm next in the queue at the library for it! Really excited to read it... hoping it lives up to the hype!

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments Finished with category 28. 4 books linked by the 4 elements: Book #3 Water. I read a graphic novel for this category A Girl on the Shore and it was ... not what I was expecting ...

Here is my review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Zaz | 2969 comments Same as you for The Hate, I didn't love it (I think it didn't make my top 10 of 2017), but I found it well done and about an important topic. I enjoyed the read anyway.

It was funny to read your review for A Girl on the Shore, I imagine my head if I'd read it without knowing what it's about (I won't add it to my TBR :p).

I just finished The Hate U Give and I thought it was amazing. It wasn't particularly enjoyable, but it has got me thinking for the last few days since I finished it. I love a book that will make me think! (Especially if it's not written in old English... I love my contemporary books).

Exactly! I couldn't stop thinking about it either!

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments I finished with:
43. A book with a title that is a whole sentence, I read The Sun Is Also a Star and I thought it was beautiful! Absolutely improbable, but beautiful anyway :D

44. A ghost story, I read The Hollow Boy, third book in the series and it was funny and exciting as always ... and that's why I can't understand why these books aren't more popular. I really prefer the way Stroud writes than Riordan, I mean, I really enjoyed Percy Jackson's series, but after that, Magnus Chase was just more of the same :S , but Stroud gave us the awesome Bartimaeus series and now Lockwood! I really wish he were more popular because he deserve it...

message 17: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments I finished with the category 39. A book with a form of punctuation in the title.. I read the graphic novel Anya's Ghost. This one was a nice surprise, I really enjoyed the story and the art.

message 18: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments I read Crooked Kingdom for the category 25. A book with an antagonist/villain point of view. I really enjoyed it, but suffered it too, because I was pretty sure since the beginning that it couldn't have a happy ending for everybody.

message 19: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments I finished with the categories:
15. A book with an unique format/writing structure. I read Wonderstruck, which combine two stories, the first is told with words, like a regular novel, the other one is told exclusively with drawings. I thought the story was juts OK, but the drawings added some beauty to the book.

35. A book featuring a murder. I read One of Us Is Lying, it was very enjoyable. I guessed who was lying in the middle of the book, but I had a couple of surprises anyway :)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments I can't believe that we are already in September and I haven't finished my half challenge!!! I can't believe I have not even update the few book I have read !!! but well, here they are.

I finished with "A book from the 2017 Goodreads Choice Awards", I read Warcross and I enjoyed it very much, but no as much as the one I had just read before :"An author's debut book", Ready Player One, which I really really enjoyed :) There were probably the 80's references that I know not everybody like, but I loved them, especially the references to TV show and movies, it was funny suddenly read things you said yourself so long ago or even read about TV shows that you didn't remember and then everything came again to your memory. I think I was smiling almost all the time while reading :D

I finished also with "A book with a map", I read Siege and Storm, but my version didn't have a map!!!! But it was Ok, because I had just read Crooked Kingdom that is exactly the same world and the map was there :P

For "A book by an author with the same first and last initials", I read the last book by Marissa Meyer: Renegades and this category was just my excuse to read one more of her books. I enjoyed very much the book, which since the beginning made me remember the X-Man so much hehe not a problem for me, I really enjoyed it, but I didn't like the end because SPOILER (view spoiler)

And Finally, for "A book with a warm atmosphere", I read Anne of Avonlea. I had heard that the rest of the books were not so good as the first one, but I really enjoyed the second one and I would like to continue reading the series.

message 21: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I loved Anne of Avonlea too. The rest I don’t remember so well, but the first two are wonderful!

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments FInished with
7. A gothic novel, I read The Little Stranger. I saw the trailer of the movie and thought it was really interesting. So I decided to read the book. It took me a long time to finish it and although I enjoyed it, it felt so looooong. I am not sure if it was a ghost story or not, but the parts with strange things happening, were really scary.

14. 4 books linked by the 4 elements: Book #2 Fire. I read Fyre and the best thing about it is that I finally finished with this series hahaha. Well, actually I enjoyed the series, the problem was that each time that I returned to continue reading the series, I wasn't able to remember the characters and the line of the story :(

36. A book published in the last 3 years (2016, 2017, 2018) by an author you haven't read before. I read Sing, Unburied, Sing. I was not planning to read this book, but it was chosen as BotM and it fit for this category. An amazing book. I don't know why, but I was surprised to know that this book was so recent.

19. A book nominated for the Edgar Award or by a Grand master author. I read Hallowe'en Party. I could have used this book for the category of next year "a book you stumble on", because it was not the book I was planning to read for this category, but I was at the lilbrary looking for something else and then I saw this book so near of Halloween, I had to read it!!! Not the best by Agatha Christie, but I enjoyed it and I was so happy that I guessed the murder, until I read some reviews were people were complaining about the book being predictable and then I thought : Hmh, maybe that is why I guessed! hahaha

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments Finished with the category "26. A book with a text only cover" I read Dark Matter, which I enjoyed, but not so much as I was expecting. It was interesting, a page-turner, however for some reason, each time a solution was given, I was not satisfied ... and there were some details with the characters that it felt like something was missing... it's difficult to explain without writing so many spoilers :D I am happy anyway that I read it :)

message 24: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments For Earth I read A Wizard of Earthsea that has been waiting for me for a long time on my bookshelf. I liked it, but it is an old book and the style felt a little slow. I will the rest of books anyway.

Fow Air, I read Airman . For many years I havent read any books by this author, and I had forgotten how much I enjoy his books. It was awesome :)

For a book that you think it would make you laugh I read Double Down and it did make me laugh a couple of times .

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments Making changes until the end!!!
I read The House on Mango Street for the category 30. A short book ... which was not considered in my plan, but with just three days to finish the year, I had to make drastic decisions. My last book will be The Night Circus and I am enjoying it very much and the other missing will be a graphic novel The Incal for science fiction... I couldn't make my bonus, but I guess I can use it for next year challenge, I have just read 330 of the 1392 pages anyway :D
