Jordan | 2 comments Literary fiction novel set in the UK about a woman and her husband who purchase a property with a spring of water that continues to flow even when there is a serious drought/water shortage. It is miraculous and they are persecuted, there is an incident and their marriage breaks down, and some religious sisters of... maybe the rose? come to stay including the protagonist's feckless daughter and grandchild. The woman is prosectued and isolated.

Themes of womanhood, motherhood, religion, environment.

Black cover, probably 2013/2014 publication date and a woman on the cover... I think it was a single word title to do with water but could be wrong.

I loaned it to somebody and never saw it again... and now I don't know the title to re-read it! Thank you so so much for your help!!

Lisa | 36 comments Sounds like The Well by Catherine Chanter. The main character's land survives a drought, which is viewed with suspicion, and she's visited by the Sisters of the Rose.

Thank you thank you thank you!

It is an excellent and unusual book actually, I really enjoyed it and am excited to revisit it! :)
