The Many Reincarnations of Snow White discussion

Hello everyone, welcome to our first group discussion! I'm excited to compare these two Snow White stories.
I really liked Snow White and the Huntsmen but felt it was lacking in places. Too many times it seemed like they let interesting ideas go to waste.
I haven't finished Forest of a Thousand Lanterns yet but so far it executes its ideas far better. I love the evil queens backstory and how tangled up in her fate she is.
What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree?

I just finished the book last night and honestly I'm still reeling.
I wondered about the crown prince too. Technically this might have been the better way to go because he doesn't even want to rule. This could open the possibility for her to rule in his place while he travels or something.

I was just saying to myself that she is too wrap up in her fate that she is not being as vigilant and thoughtful as she should be. I am on Chapter 26 now, and I think that she has stepped or is stepping into a trap and because she is so determined she is not considering the other paths that could lead to her destiny. She is destined to be Empress but what if it is by way of marring the crown prince? Or what if her dad was of the Dragon Kings blood? I can not wait to finish and see what happens. I feel like I cant read fast enough!

I just finished and I have mixed feeling about the ending. Who do yoi think lit the lanterns?

I- I don't know. I kinda thought it was magic or the spirit of Lihua but maybe that doesn't make sense.
I'm sure it has something to do with Jade.

I didn't think about Jade. I thought about Wei because I was hoping for a happy ending.
But yes it could have been the spirit of Lihua reminding Xifeung that she is watching over her daughter.

I thought maybe it was Wei too but he doesn't know the story of the thousand lanterns.
