What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

For the life of me I cannot remember the name of this book. This girl goes in the foster care system and one of the places she ends up is in a home with a bunch of different girls. I remember that there are twins that she makes friends with and one of the twin dies in a fire I think. Then she is set to a good foster home, the Foster parents are awesome but the mom has a heart condition. A man breaks in the hose and tries to kill the girl and the mom finds her and almost dies from the heart issue. I believe that they don't keep her after that. I want to reread the book but can't remember what it is called please help if you can it is totally driving me crazy.

Sounds a lot like the childhood of Laura from Dean Koontz's

She's sent to an orphanage at around 12, meets twins Thelma & Ruth. Eventually finds a good foster family, but a stalker from the orphanage breaks in. Foster mother dies from heart attack. She's sent back to the orphanage, then moved to another one. Finds out that Ruth died in a fire at the old orphanage. The book follows her into adulthood and there are many appearances by a mysterious blond stranger who saves her life. He's a (view spoiler)[time traveler from Nazi Germany. He'd been impressed by her spirit in one of his trips to the future. She was a quadriplegic poet. But no matter how many times he saves her, she keeps ending up in danger/crippled because time tries to reassert it's previous path. (hide spoiler)]

The book is "Lightning," and it's by Dean Koontz. Readily available, I'm pretty sure.
