A few important notes

🗝️ Only books STARTED after the challenge begins can count. The challenge starts on Thursday February 1 at 7pm AEDST. Countdown to start

🗝️ Books must be more than 100 pages in length. If it is a childrens book or a graphic novel, we need to verify it is more than 25,000 words on arbookfinder.

🗝️ If you listen to audio books, they absolutely count, please shelve the default edition for page numbers.

🗝️ Your finished books need to be on your Uno shelf and they need to be marked as "read" with a read date for them to count.

🗝️ Please make notes of how your book may count. The more options we have the better! (Letters used in UNO are Z,O,T,H,F,I,V,E,S,N,K,P) and of course note if another team member has read the book before, those reverse cards can be tricky.

🗝️ For coloured cards, the cover needs to be 50% or more of that colour to count. Please use this colour tool to make sure. If you are unsure, please ask me, Tina or Teddie so we can check it and/or take to the captains group for another opinion

🗝️ Uno is mainly a social challenge, not a competitive one. We'd love to get points, but the main goal of the game is to have fun, read lots of great books and to meet some new people.

Februrary Mini challenge

First Part

♥ As a team, you may choose up to 3 teams whose recommendations you would like to read from.
♥ As a team, you may then read 2 recommended books per team you have chosen, bringing you to a total of 6 books.
♥ Series substitutes are of course allowed (i.e. if book #1 in a series is recommended and you are up to book #4 of that series, you can read book #4).
♥ In case you happen to have read ALL the books that have been recommended by your chosen team(s), you may read a different book written by the same author(s).
♥ For some added fun, when you finish a recommended book, please stop by that team's thread to tell them what you thought of the book. (Even if you didn't like it - sometimes that can bring up interesting discussions.)
♥ Then report back to your own thread and post a link to your comment (they will be added to the spreadsheet by the (co-)captains). Every comment will give you an additional 5 points.

Second Part

For this part of the challenge, you will read books that can in some way be connected to the recommendations of all the teams you have not read from in the first part of the challenge.

♥ As a team, you may read up to 2 books per team.
(THIS IS JUST INFO FOR US: 22 teams, minus yourself, minus the 3 from the first part, leaves 18 teams to read from = 36 books)

♥ How does this work exactly? There are 2 ways to do this:
1. You can match the book covers to each other.
2. You can match the characters, settings, plots or any other thing you can think of.

For example: Someone on Team A has read A Man Called Ove. The cover has a man and a cat on the cover. Someone from Team B can then read a book with either of those two things on the cover (or both), like for example Storm Front, which also has a single man on the cover.


OR, you can find a different reasoning, such as:
- reading a book based in Sweden
- reading a book with a grumpy male protagonist
- reading a book where someone discovers a new purpose in life
- reading a book with a character who has the same name as a character in A Man Called Ove

♥ The reasoning can be of your own choosing. No matter how far-fetched it might seem, we will accept it as long as the explanation is good and, most of all, plausible. (For questions whether or not the reasoning is acceptable, please check with your (Co-)Captains.)

♥ However, there are a few exceptions to this. It is not enough to say a book "connects" due to having the same book specifications, such as:
- genre
- page numbers
- publisher
- date of publication
- Goodreads rating

♥ The edition you are reading counts. Editions other than the one you are reading will not be accepted in making your reasoning count.
♥ For every book read, your team will gain 10 points.


Additional rules:
♥ Only books read February 14-28 will count for this mini challenge.
♥ Books started before February 14th do not count for this mini challenge.
♥ The usual book length requirement for UNO applies.
♥ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands.

Hi everyone and welcome to our awesome Team Triangulum (which I'll freely admit to I can't spell yet). ;)

If you’re like me, you have no clue about anything about this galaxy, so I thought I’d post s some information about where we’re from.

The Triangulum Galaxy is a spiral galaxy approximately 3 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Triangulum. he Triangulum Galaxy is the third-largest member of the Local Group of galaxies, behind the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy. It is one of the most distant permanent objects that can be viewed with the naked eye. It is believed to be a satellite of the Andromeda Galaxy due to their interactions, velocities and proximity to one another in the night sky. (All “borrowed” from Wikipedia)

A couple of things; when you first check in to the thread It would be great if you could post the link to your Uno shelf so I can link you all up in msg 5 :)

And if you haven’t already, look through the rules and make sure that you know what to do for each card - you can find the explanation to the cards in the general info on the challenge linked up above. There has been a few changes to the rules from previous years, so even if you’ve played before it’s good to have another look.

A little about me; I live in the southern parts of Sweden and right now it feels like it rains all year around. UK has nothing on us ;)
I love reading and talking books, and when I found GR a few years back my reading habit went to the insane levels. I always carry a book in my hand and I never leave home without listening to audiobooks.

I'm really excited for this challenge to start. Uno is my favourite team challenge and it's one I never miss. I love meeting new likeminded people and have met some great friends here :)

I'm over in New York, and we are frozen in a cyclone bomb - although I'm in Buffalo, NY, so really it's just, Saturday.

This is my first team challenge but i love the game uno! I can't wait to start playing and getting to know everyone!

I'm from central California, the land of only two seasons.. hell and relief. I love reading and writing. I published my first novel back in October, the excitement from it is starting to dwindle (especially since it needs some more editing.. grammar and punctuation errors mostly.) It does fit the criteria for a few cards so if anyone wants to check it out, let me know and I'll post the link. It's on KU.

I live in Ohio, USA. Last week we were in the negative numbers but this week I think we even hit 20* F so, it has been like a heatwave. I will read just about anything but my favorite genre is mystery/suspense. I have played UNO once before and really enjoyed it and can't wait to get started this round :)

Any particular genre you prefer / don't read?

At the top of my head:
- Loved this book, it's hilarious. If you can you should try it the audio version.

- Most (if not all) of this series will work, it has a Z character

I've enjoyed a lot of books by Rebecca Zanetti

And if you don't mind m/m romance you need to read , it's epically awesome ;)

The zero cards aren't as hard as they might seem. Any standalone book will count for this (Books not part of a series) so there are many to choose from :)

I enjoy romance, paranormal mystery and suspense. I'm not big on erotica unless I'm in the mood for it. My favorites tend to be books i can read a million times and never get bored with them, anything by Kelley Armstrong, the Harry Potter series, Sarah J Maas The Court series... I read the throne of glass series up to half of book three and promptly removed it from my library. Oh and The mortal instruments though that would be put in guilty pleasures.

My guilty pleasures which i get made fun of for and don't care... twilight series and true blood series. Not a fan of the show or movies but i love reading the books.

No one here is going to make fun of you for your guilty pleasures, we all have them after all. We can relate :)

I am a huuge fan of all things romance - any and all sub genres, ok so not sci fi or horror. but still you get my drift.

You should try the Others series by Anne Bishop, I think you might enjoy them. Written in Red is the first book in the series.

I used to read a lot of romance but I think I got burned out on the HEA. Right now, I'm on mystery/suspense/thriller kick. I'll read just about anything but I'd have to say my least favorite is hardcore erotica and with non-fiction it has to be a subject I'm really interested in. My favorite series is the "In Death" series by JD Robb.

I love the Others series also.

I haven't read the last one in the series yet. And I'm kinda thinking I might re-read the whole bunch (again).

I love the in Death series too! It's so much fun, Love Eve's snark and cluelessness to "normal" human behavior - they are great in audio btw :)

For suspense, have you tried anything by Karen Rose. She writes terrific suspense novels.

And can you all tell I love recommending books? ;)

I only listen to the "In Death" book on audio. Susan Erikson is the best narrator I've ever heard. How she keeps all those voices constant throughout 45 books is beyond me.

I have Karen Rose on my TBR list but haven't gotten around to her yet. Lately I have been enjoying a few series by Lisa Gardener

I love the True Blood books - I reread them every year or so. I love Sookie (and Sookie and Eric) in the books. I tried watching the series, but it is so different in tone from the books - I only made it through 1 season.

The series suuuuuucks. I could get on board with season 1 despite the major differences and the fact that they've dumbed down Sookie even more (because unfortunately she isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed, let's be real here hehe) but season 2 was downright the most awful season of anything I have ever seen. So so terribly bad. I was told the third season was better again so I watched it and then wished I hadn't.

The book series I enjoyed though and went through them fairly quickly. There were a couple towards the end where it was noticeable that the author just wanted to end the series but all in all, it was good fun.

Oh lord the show was awful!! I couldn't get past episode one. I understand that shows or movies won't be exactly like the books they are based on, but True Blood felt more like the producers and writers only read the blurbs on the back of the books.

I know, she's brilliant! The range of voices she has, and like you said, the consistency of them. I'm in awe of her each time I pick up a book perfomed by her. Really one of the best narrators out there!

Currently attempting to read the Flowers in the Attic series but keep getting distracted. Watched the new It with hubby and it was better than expected. I'm also a huge General Hospital fan and Thursday night i looked up something on youtube, ended up getting sucked into someone's channel that has the whole Franco (James Franco version) storyline. Im currently on episode 136. Each episode is 11 minutes long... so yeah, i haven't done a lot of reading this weekend.

Haha, I know what you mean. I'm usually watching an episode of Masterchef Australia (wow those challenges are hard!) when I eat, but this weekend I got sucked in, so less reading for me too =P
