Super excited to be part of this challenge! Never taken part before but finally have some free time so I thought might as well take part:)
Little introduction:
My name is Kristel, 21(for few more days), live in Estonia. I read mostly fantasy and dystopia but in the last few years I've tried to expand my reading a bit with quite positive results so we'll see what I'll decide to read during this challenge.
Uno shelf: uno shelf

My name is Catarina, 33, from Portugal. I don't usually talk much but i do read the threads at least once a day.
I'm currently doing another challenge and i put my profile to private because of it, so let me know who else i need to add as friends :)
My uno shelf: uno-2018

My name is Chrystal, I'm 26 and live in Arkansas, USA.
(Originally from the Caribbean). I read mostly fiction: sci-fi, fantasy, literary, contemporary and sometimes mystery. If I'm reading non-fiction, it's probably centered on Black issues like the Civil Rights era, black women's issues etc.
Would love to branch out and read more about other cultures and social issues. Also trying to read more poetry this year. :)

Could you add me as a friend? I would love to be Goodreads friends with all my teammates. :)

I am 34 from Texas and I can find something I enjoy reading from just about every genre (even the dreaded NF lol).

Iβm Sarah! I live in Maryland, USA, but will always be a Midwest girl at heart ;-).
I enjoy reading almost everything and my genre has grown thanks to this challenge and others!
Feel feee to add me as a friend!
UNO Shelf - https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I read a lot of different genres, favorites at the moment are contemporary. historical fiction, and mystery/thriller.

Iβm Diana, 26, and Iβm from Portugal. This is my second Uno challenge, and I am super excited. Last year I read A LOT thanks to this crazy awesome challenge. I donβt have a favorite genre, and I have been trying to diversify my reading.
Here is my shelf: Uno-2018

I do have a general question for the team, although Laura & Kristel may have the solution already: how are we dividing the hands? I see that Feb's hands are already on the spreadsheet. How are we picking who does what card?

In my past UNO challenges, we typically would read whatever we had on our shelves, post on our page with what cards worked, and then captains would decide what worked for what hand.
Just one suggestion :-)

I do think that maybe this is the best system. Everybody reads what they want and if at the end of the month it appears that we are struggling to finish a hand then some of us can do a more targeted read.
I think if we tell somebody they have to find something that fits a particular card it might take the fun out of it and make reading a book into a chore.
But I am a newbie and some of you that have participated before may have better solutions:)

I totally agree! One thing that helped last year was that we made a seperate spreadsheet to post everything that our book fit. Here is the link so you can see what I'm talking about: Planning SS
Then once we get into the mini challenges it is easier to "call" spots :)

But first, my own introduction. I live in Southern California. I homeschool my 6 daughters. We have 6 cats and about 16 chickens. The weather here lately is just about perfect!
The spreadsheet Jessica posted is actually based on a template that Karen came up with several rounds ago. I've already grabbed a copy for us.
Kuiper Book Tracking
So, as you read books (or, if you're a planner you can put your planned books in the spreadsheet - that's what I'll probably do) you can either put them in the spreadsheet or post them here, if you would rather. Just mark (or post) everything the book works for. And don't forget that setting counts. That's the one I always forget. :)
My plan of attack is to take care of the Vs, Is, and Es first. If I book works for one of those I'll place it on our official spreadsheet right away. So we might have spots in hand 5 filled while there are still empty spots in hand 1. After we fill all of those spots, then I'll start putting books into the available spots.
And one last thing is the color cards. I'm awful with color tasks, so I like to get those planned early. Here's what we have for the month:
Yellow 3
Red 1
Green 7
Blue 3
Blue 9
Yellow 1
Green 4

Red 1
Green 7
Blue 3
Blue 9
Yellow 1
Green 4 "
Just found out that the Wild Draw 4 cards have to match one of our color AND number cards. And you can only match to a card once.
Looks like we have 3 of those this month, so we'll need to keep in mind that they have to match one of the above color/number combos.

I viewed the spreadhseet Jessica posted and requested access to Laura's.
I'll review our cards again and start planning what books I want to read in February. Hopefully some of the reads will fit our hands.
I also need to go over the rules one more time! Soo much to learn!

After the first hand, it will click!
Beware though, this challenge is addicting and itβs super sad when itβs done! ;-)

My apologies. I do tend to give too much info at one time. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

I'm 32 years old and live in the Kansas City area. I work nights as an ICU nurse, so you may notice the hours I'm active can be a bit odd. I like to read just about anything, and I'm looking forward to expanding my reading further through the challenge.

Iβve read Kings Cage - I think that works for a reverse right?

I didn't realize the teams had been chosen, and Chrystal had me very confused when she mentioned she was also Team Kuiper on her friend request! I was trying to figure out if I had read anything with a Kuiper in it. :)

I'd love to become friends with everyone here. I'm not the best at checking in every day, but will try my best to do it more often and at least once a week. I can't wait to officially start in February!

Thanks for that! I forgot to link that and the website to verify word count for children's books. I'll get them in my top post.
But for the color extractor website, please keep in mind that we only need to use it for questionable covers. If a cover is obviously one color, no need. We usually go to it to determine if a color is 50% or not. It can be pretty persnickety about color divisions. I've seen it call sunshine yellow cover green! :)
Also, don't worry about filling in the hand number column. We'll fill that one in when we place the book in the official spreadsheet.

Here's the countdown to the start: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

I'm doing great! Finally finished all my exams and now I'm enjoying a week long brake before a new semester begins.
As for UNO, I've already made a list of books that I would like to read and can't wait to dive into them.

First Lord's Fury
A Court of Mist and Fury
A Discovery of Witches
Daja's Book
Briar's Book
The Realms of the Gods
Written in Red

I have read A Court of Mist and Fury and A Discovery of Witches (both are amazing btw)

Totally didn't mean to confuse you! :(

Thanks for the countdown timer Laura!
I am doing great, getting very excited as the time draws near. :D
Added a few books to our team tracking spreadsheet. Will be adding some more in a little bit.

I added a few books i plan to start February with to the planning spreadsheet. Excited to get started!

The start of UNO is just around the corner!!
To while away the time a little as we're waiting for the countdown to run out, you could help Snoopy increase his tiny TBR pile and give him some recommendations on what to read next.

Just swing by THIS THREAD for more information and some awesome recommendations. You might just meet your next favourite book!
