Ladyslott | 1880 comments Who doesn’t love Tom Hanks? He is America’s everyman.

In addition to being an actor, producer, director and screenwriter he is a husband and father. Now he can add author to his resume.

Uncommon Type is a collection of 17 short stories with one commonality; every one feature a typewriter in one form or another. The stories are varied in theme - from a teenage son learning a secret about his father; a bossy girlfriend; an illegal immigrant; a time traveler; and a young actress trying to make it in the Big Apple. Most of them I loved, and those I didn’t love I still enjoyed.

I am not a huge fan of short stories but I found this collection one worth the read. Sweet, funny and both heartwarming and at times heartbreaking. Tom Hanks turns out to be a great storyteller.

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments Alright, after waving, you've convinced me to put this on my TBR. After the completely NOT successful (IMO) One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories by B.J. Novak- I've been super wary of short stories by actors. But if he can make it work, I'm on board! I will read them all in Woody from Toy Story's voice.

I did not like One More Thing either, but I did enjoy this book.
