Kerri, the Not Without My Daughter book is about a woman who went to Iran with her husband and daughter for vacation and the husband would not let them return to the U.S. I read this in the late 1980s and it has stuck with me all these years. (I may reread it, now that you reminded me of the book!) The story was terrifying to know that this could happen. I would recommend reading this one first from your list.

Slight pause while I go get the books..... (think of the Jeopardy theme playing)....
Success! Here they are:

Immortal
Secrets in the Attic
Jane Eyre
Sensei
And Another Thing...

My 1st 2 are book 5 and 7 of the Narnia series so I'm going to leave those for a later date when I have time for the whole series.

Jackie, you haven't beaten me, but you get the silver medal for the time being. :-)
Buuuuut.... Copyright year is not valid, you should mention the year the books entered your TBR list, or you actually bought them! >:-)

Yikes! The first four are the first in a series, and I've been putting off John Green until I decide to read all of his books. This challenge may actually result in my TBR list getting longer. There is a reason I prefer first books by new authors! ;-)

Hi Marcos, I should have been a bit more clear. I listed the copyright dates because they were purchased then, with the possible exception of Adam's Eden as I don't remember when I bought that one exactly. In any case, that book was in a box of books that had not been opened in 14 years! (Hanging my head in shame.) How do I know the number of years? We moved into this house in 2003 and it was still in a moving box!!! I wish I could say that I only had one box of unopened books-but unfortunately there are many, many more. My house goal is to get a carpenter to build some custom shelves in one of the rooms. Then I will unpack the rest of the boxes and donate whatever doesn't fit to the library.
I'm happy with a silver medal :-).

How can a 2005-copyrighted book be in a box sealed in 2003??
The silver medal is hereby cancelled until the suspect party provides further information.

Current score: 0/5
1. To Kill a Mockingbird
2. The Great Gatsby (27 Dec)
3. Little Women
4. Great Expectations
5. Lord of the Flies
Very appropriate for this book club too!
Update: Only managed to read one book this year, will have to do better in 2019!

"with the possible exception of Adam's Eden as I don't remember when I bought that one exactly. In any case, THAT book was in a box of books that had not been opened in 14 years! " The copyright for that book was 1997. The other books were not in that box.
I will give you credit for doing the math though. Glad you are keeping us honest. I want my silver medal back now!!

These are from my Purchased-to-Read Shelf, since I have a bad habit of buying too many books and keeping them around forever.

The goal of the challenge is very simple:
Find the 5 oldest books on your To-Be-Read (TBR) list and read them!
HOW TO PLAY:
1. How to find your 5 oldest TBR books:
Go to your personal bookshelf (using "My Books" link at the top of the page) and then your "Want-to-Read" shelf - this is your TBR shelf. [Note: some of your may be more organized than me and have multiple TBR lists, so choose whichever one you think is most appropriate, or check them all!]
Once there, click on the column header "date added" in order to sort by date you added to your TBR shelf (you may need to click twice to sort oldest-to-newest).
Once you have sorted, note the top 5 books on this list - these are the books you will aim to read this year!
2. How to score:
Comment on this thread with the 5 oldest books on your TBR list (see below for an example).
As you finish reading a book, check them off the list by adding a "read" date next to the book.
3. To edit your challenge score/edit your comment:
a. Find your comment in the challenge thread.
b. On the bottom right of your comment, there should be four hyperlinks: "reply | edit | delete | flag". Select "edit".
c. Add your book read date per above instructions.
d. Click "edit post" once you are done.
4. If your TBR shelf is reaaaaally old...
I have 350+ books on my TBR shelf... I get it. Sometimes tastes change. If you find you are no longer interested in reading a book, or you begin to read it and it is a clear Did-Not-Finish (DNF), feel free to replace it on your list of 5 and move on. This goal is for YOU so do whatever you want to/need to/feel like doing to clean up your TBR shelf.
5. Challenge dates:
This challenge runs from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018.
Feel free to JOIN AT ANY TIME.
Good luck!!!
