I am now taking bets on if Janis can out maneuver the Beast..any takers?

I'm only through Chapter 1, but it's been awhile so I've been reading through old group discussions trying to remember where we left off.

I guess Janis was removed from command and Marcus took over, then on his way home he was captured/possessed by the Beast. Is that right?

Recinina is now trying to rule as Queen while dealing with massive debt and the newly powerful Deputies General.

I'm hoping I can remember some more details as we go on. Many names and some events are all pretty hazy at this point.

Suzanne | 1582 comments It is still very fuzzy to me too. I remember Janus being removed from command - I believe mostly to broker the peace deal between the two countries.

The thing that blew me away the most was the whole Janus / Beast conversation at the first. Yeah I guess he could have been captured by the Beast on his way home? But I had the (perhaps mistaken) impression that he had been working for the Beast even longer. I know I've been wondering throughout all of the previous books if Janus was a "good guy" or a "bad guy".

Bill | 1596 comments Janus was removed by Marcus to broker the peace like Suzanne said. He wanted to continue to Elysium but Recinina just wanted done with the fighting and got the commanders to side with her.

That’s interesting Suzanne I never considered Janus being the bad guy. I always assumed he was trying to take down the church to stop something from happening which turned out to be the beast.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I've always WANTED to trust him but have worried he might be evil, for at least the past 2 books. I kind of still feel the same way. I wish we got to see more of him, but I guess there are still many pages to go.

I've never been sure of Janis. However I think he'll try to con the Beast if he can.

Did we know that the name he was calling out was his older sister in the last book, or was that revealed here? I wasn't surprised, but maybe I had just guessed based on some of his comments. Hopefully we get the full story in the next section.

Bill | 1596 comments I’m not really sure now that you ask. I think we found out in the last book but not positive.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I thought it was still a mystery but I could have just missed it.

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) An interesting start to the books. Winter has been set up as the one that will take on the Beast. Was very surprised when she encountered it in her next chapter. Thought that would have dragged a little longer. This is good, as it shakes up what i think i might suspect from this book.
Apart from that, the rest is ground work and recapping the previous books.
What will happen to Janus?
Will Raesinia and Marcus get marries and live happily ever after?
Will Winter eventually lead the army and reveal her gender? Will Marcus accept this?

Time to take my time and enjoy this read (better late than never)
