Just started it now but loving it already. There are two parts, the parts of Cinnamon taking place in the U.S. and the more mythical part, the chronicles which take place in Africa.
At the chapter "Born Two" page 225 Im finding it confusing. Am I the only one? It's when Opal is in the hospital. I'm hoping things will be clarified in the chapters to come.

I'm not sure what's confusing you. Maybe this should be on the spoiler thread?

I thought of posting this in the spoiler thread but I'm only half way though and I can tell there are going to be lots of surprises, so I don't want to read any spoilers.
I don't think what I'm going to write now is a spoiler, but if anyone disagree I'll hide it.
I am confused about Opal. Since her son's death she talks about the chronicles as if they are nonsense, but in the hospital all of a sudden she talks about the wanderer and Kehinde as if she knows all about them.

The answers to your questions are spoilers. I can tell you that you will find out later.

Good to know, Thanks!

Another reason I mentioned I found it "confusing" is the fact that there are many parts I have a difficult time visualizing. For instance Marie's hand or the electrical storm in Paris.
I know it's fantasy-science fiction, but the books in these genres I like allow me to imagine what is happening like a movie. That's often not the case here.

Sorry, guys, but I think I'm going to bail on this one.
I'm about a hundred pages in and I just can't get into it. Any other month, and I'd probably keep at it, but the last month or two I just keep running into mediocre books and I don't have the patience for it right now.

I understand. The premise of the book was great and there were parts I loved but other parts dragged on. In that way it was kind of like American Gods for me where I'd think it's great, get bored just when I thought I'd ditch it got better. In this case it never got so bad I wanted to ditch it.

Can't say how it is exactly for you Miriam. After thinking about it and reading other reviews for me it's the way the story is told I had a hard time getting into it because I'm a visual reader. I like to be able to have a film in my head while I'm reading and this style of writing makes it difficult to do. I think it might have to do with the fact that there is a lot of dialog, especially in the Philadelphia part of the story. It was often difficult for me to imagine what was happening. Other aspects I loved, like the actual characters, the African mythology etc.

Too bad! That book had so much potential!
