I just finished Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella. Other than her YA book Finding Audrey, this is the first book by her I've finished. I DNF'd Shopaholic because the main character's actions (all that shopping!!) drove me crazy. I had a similar reaction to the the 2 main characters in Twenties Girl. I was halfway through the book before they stopped infuriating me. I then went on to enjoy the rest of the book, but that first half... Ugh.

Is this typical of Sophie Kinsella's writing? I have a few more of her books on my TBR, but if this is the way they go, I just don't think I can go through that again.

I've only read the shopaholic series and i think one other book by her but i dont remember what it was called or how it went, so I'm not of much help.
I think Stephen King is the only author where I've bothered to look at other of his works just because they were by him. Most times when I read a book, even if i really liked it I don't necessarily go looking for other books theyve written. Not sure why. I think the only reason I've read multiple stephen king is because he just has SO MANY really well known books. Anyone else seek out authors' other works?

If I find an author I like I look for other works. Sometimes I'm disappointed. I'm always looking for a new mystery author. Right now I'm waiting for both Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling) and Elly Griffiths to publish their next book.

I own several of her books, which is why I’m wondering. If they’re all like this, I will get rid of them. If I didn’t own them, I probably wouldn’t read them. I think I’ll give her one more try, then decide. (I’ve got to stop buying multiple books by unread authors.)

Haha Rhonda! Sounds like a plan!

Why does Jk Rowling bother putting out a book under a pen name if everyone knows its her? Why does any author?

My daughter-in-law likes them. She's the only one I know who has read them. Life is too short to read books I don't like.

I completely agree with you, so why am spending so much time thinking about this?

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 379 comments The entire premise of the Shopaholic books puts me off, so I've never bothered, and that makes me dubious about anything Kinsella writes.

I definitely read more of any author I like, because good books to my taste aren't that easy to find, and usually it's the author's style that appeals, so it carries over even outside of series.

Not always, though. I love Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness mysteries, but had to flog myself through several of the Molly Murphy books, which just seemed to lack some of sparkle of her other work. Maybe they lack the humor.

Jody Butcher | 53 comments I've read the Shopaholic and then I tried to read the Shopaholic Ties the Knot. I couldn't finish it! The main character was driving me crazy. I am really not into comedy of errors type of book/movies/etc and I think this is a lot of how Sophie Kinsella writes. But some people love them so there must be something to them... they're just not for me.
