I don't think he would have solved it either. He wouldn't have interviewed the staff at Greentree the way he did, nor would he have known anything about the lawyer. Plus, the big clues came from Mary Higgins, Mrs. Higgins' oldest daughter. Frank never even bothered to talk to the children.
