ISLAND UNKNOWN

The island on which this RP takes place is located in the expanse of the South Pacific Ocean, somewhere between Australia and the USA. It has never been documented on any map and initially, our survivors are firm in the belief that they are the first people to find the island. Approximately 80km (55mi) in length and 65km (40mi) in width it will take a healthy person around three to four days to get across the island and over a week walk around the entirety of it. A secondary smaller island lies to the East of Island Unknown. It sits eight miles off the coast and is where the tail-end of the plane landed in the crash. This secondary island will also be utilised in the rp for survivors from the back half of the plane. Both islands possess a similar climate and environment, though there are some geographical differences which are detailed below.

Main Island

The larger of the two islands seen in the rp, Island Unknown is an expansive, wild and dangerous place. From the outset, it appears uninhabited with miles upon miles of untouched jungle and pristine coastline. Survivors of the main crash will find themselves on the west of the island, waking up on a sandy beach with dark trees to their back and the barren ocean in front of them. Island Unknown possesses a distinctive coastline which is mostly white sands, though there are some areas that are rocky and harder to navigate. There is a sheer cliff face on the West Coast as well as a series of coves that will be available to explore. Jungles and forests make up the central part of the island. Although they run together, there are distinct differences between them: the forest appears to be more sparse, with smaller trees; while the jungle appears to be more dense, with more hanging vines over-head. The island also has great rolling hills and stretch of flat plateaued grassland. There are mountains throughout, and a valley running between the mountain ridges which contains rivers, streams, and waterfalls. One active volcano is also present to the south of the island.

Second Island

Much smaller than the first, this island can be crossed in under a day and it would take around two days to walk around the entire diameter. It is situated to the East of the main island and possesses a similar environment and climate. The topography is notable similar with much of the land covered in jungle and greenery. It's main features include a large lake and several caves in which the survivors may wish to explore. As this island is smaller, it's secrets are likely to be uncovered at a faster rate, this means the secondary survivors may be more aware of the history of the island than their main island counterparts. The tail end of the plane crashlanded in dense jungle, but a short walk will take survivors to the coastline from which they can see the main island. Though swimming between the two would be possible, it would be an incredibly difficult task for most to accomplish. There are no mountains or volcanos on this island but there is a high cliff from which survivors can see the neighbouring island.

Climate

Island Unknown typically has a warm, tropical climate though this can change depending on where you are on the island. Survivors will mostly experience hot and humid temperatures though rainfall is common. Storms and high winds may occur from time to time and survivors will have to seek shelter in order to protect themselves. On the higher points of the island such as the mountains or volcanos, the weather will be much colder, so those intending to travel there will need to prepare ahead of time.

GAMEPLAY

Island Unknown is somewhat interactive in its gameplay, so here's just a brief summary of how some of the elements of the rp work:

Starting Point

The entire roleplay kicks off after one big event which is of course the flight crash landing on the island. All those involved in the initial Main Island crash must start at the Crash Site. (This may not be the case if you join the rp later...please check with mods.) The crash site will be divided into separate threads for various character groups, but please note, it is still just one location. This will just to be to minimise the number of people rping in one place. You may have seen mention of a second island, which is actually situated 8 miles to the East of the Main Island. The Secondary Island exists to enable characters to be separated from their families and hype up the drama.

For anyone joining mid-rp who missed the initial crash, you are more than welcome to join, but you will have to provide an explanation for where your character has been. It could be as easy as, they've been there all along and they know some peoples names but they just haven't been thoroughly involved in hunter/gathering and have been doing their own thing. You may also choose to start them elsewhere having survived a fall from the plane into the jungle/sea etc...and they've been travelling towards the crash site ever since...but it's totally up to you, just give a mod a shout if you have any questions about where to start!

Unlockable locations and recoverable items

For those of you that have already had a nose around the location threads you may notice that certain areas of the roleplay are currently off-limits. These unlockable locations can only be accessed by following a certain route in order to find them (as you would, were you actually exploring a deserted island).

This is fairly self-explanatory, as you can probably see some threads lead directly to other threads and moderators will then unlock locations for those who "find" them.

I'll use the Western Shore thread as an example...

If my character was the first to explore the Western Shore they have the opportunity to uncover the Rock Pools (a great place for fishing) or alternatively the Cliffside. (Both locations will be unlocked by moderators when found for the first time) Exploring the Cliffside will give the user a good view of the water, enabling them to spot debris from the plane crash and therefore unlocking thread Sunken Debris. Comprende?

Threads will remain unlocked after their initial discovery and characters are then free to move between threads however they choose. It's just a bit of initial fun so we can all do some exploring.

Recoverable items are unique to locations and include everything from first aid kits to machetes and caches of rum. A list of recoverable items in provided at each location, along with a quantity of each item. Items will be crossed off once in the possession of a character...don't get greedy though, if you hoard everything you're asking for trouble! Certain items are listed as broken, burnt, destroyed and or water logged, and so may take some time to get working...doesn't mean they're useless though!

I've left some items up to your imagination, so first aid kits, rucksacks, suitcases and plane debris it's very much up to you what you find (and what you share!)

As the roleplay progresses and more locations/ other parts of the island are unlocked you'll get the chance to explore a ton of new places and potentially recover some amazing items!

Story Progression

The story progression thread is something you may want to keep an eye on. It's a good place to get some details about what's happened on the island so far, who's still alive and who might have died (...if you're feeling particularly malicious towards your characters...) but we'll also include details relating to certain locations and events that may be occurring. These include, incoming tropical storms, dangerous animals spotted in certain areas, prey animals seen on other parts of the island and even objects of interest that may have been uncovered in heavy rainfall! You're of course welcome to rp all of these events by yourself, but if mods think everything is looking a little too calm we may throw in a couple of curve balls to get some action going...it's a deserted island after all, anything goes!

Survivors Council

The Survivors Council will be elected by rp members and their characters through the use of polls. This will be included several weeks after the crash as a way for the characters to designate some leadership and maintain a semblance of normality. What the polls say stand, unless a character steps down, the council votes for a re-election or a character is killed through the course of the rp. The Survivors Council is a separate thread where anyone (not just council members) can talk as if sitting in council...this is a place for people to discuss whats occurring on the island (in character) and also consider what rules they may wish to implement or how rations are divided etc... this will act as a "Character Chat" thread in this rp so can be used even if a character is stuck somewhere in rp.

Please don't hesitate to leave questions below!
