The YA Dystopian Book Club discussion

Hey guys! So this is just a place for us mods to discuss everything :)

So what should we start with?

First of all- do any of you have questions about what being a moderator is or what exactly you need to do?

Other than that, I'd appreciate some help just setting up a poll for the August BOTM (too late for a nomination thread now....)

No questions here. Yet...

Which books do we want to vote on for BOTM? The ones that didn't win for the last month or a whole new batch?

Normally we would have a nomination thread, but since it's too late for that it can just be a combination of last month's losers and other dystopian books that haven't been read by the group before.

We could do BZRK, Gone, Rex Rising, Article 5, Lockdown, Birhtmarked and For Darkness Shows the Stars?

Those sound good to me, but maybe sine BZRK got so few votes last time, we could do Pawn instead, since it got so many?

Yah sure. That should be enough right?

I'd say that's fine! If you want to create that poll v.v that's great (if not, I can always do it).

Also- I was thinking we should also do a SOTM, and just use all the losers from the last poll? (Unwind, Uglies, Slated, Wither, Numbers, Eve) and any more that you guys want to add!

I just wanted to know if there are any tips you can give us, kinda nervous and excited?? What should I do???

Haha I'm glad you're excited- but you don't have to be nervous! I think the main thing all mods should do is be active. Just go talk with other people in the group by welcoming new members, talking in book/tv/movie chats for ones you've read/watched. And in general just participate :)

Haha that's pretty much it for now. You can also create monthly challenges if you want, and then help out with polls and BOTM threads :)

OK so one thing I was thinking, because I've seen other groups do it. how can we go about getting authors to do like a q & a? r we even able to do that?

And what you'd do is just message the author on goodreads and (preferably in a more formal way) ask them if they would be willing to come interact with our group members and do a Q&A. I know that David Estes would probably be interested if you want to talk to him. Lots of upcoming authors would also be excited. But I also know that sometimes some really famous authors are willing if you try and contact them :)

I have been wondering when we change the current book we are reading since the current one is from our BOTM a few months ago?

Haha once the poll is done we'll have some for August that will become the new BOTM.

Normally we'll have a new one each month.
However, there were 4 mods for this group, and I was the only active one and since I moderate a bunch of other groups this one just slipped through my fingers! But now it's back, and it'll stay this way :)

Also- do any of you have any experience with setting up Read and Reviews (or are interested in learning how to help out)? You don't have to!

And essentially what you have to do is create a thread (I can post a template) for a book that an author has signed up to give away in the Read and Review sign-ups. Then as people sign up for the book you just have to add them to the first thread to make sure that they review the book within 3 weeks of signing up.
Does that make sense?? If not, just ask! :)

Ok I'll give it a try. I'll follow wat you did for the previous RaRs.

I posted the RaRs. Is it okay that I put someone more than once. I told them that they wouldn't receive the new copy until they finished the previous copy.
