Love hurts...

Makani Young thought she'd left her dark past behind her in Hawaii, settling in with her grandmother in landlocked Nebraska. She's found new friends and has even started to fall for mysterious outsider Ollie Larsson. But her past isn't far behind.

Then, one by one, the students of Osborne Hugh begin to die in a series of gruesome murders, each with increasingly grotesque flair. As the terror grows closer and her feelings for Ollie intensify, Makani is forced to confront her own dark secrets.

Over halfway (view spoiler)[ I’m a little ashamed of myself. I let myself be swayed by what everyone was saying in the book and where the author was leading us and I started to think that Ollie had something to do with it when he’s just been trying to help them all along. I had to change my mind about him when he ran out of her house stark naked in pursuit of her attacker.😂 He’s incredibly brave and sweet. (hide spoiler)]

Finished (view spoiler)[ Wow. Just wow. This book was crazy intense. I don’t read that many thrillers as I’m a bit of a wimp, okay a lot of a wimp. But I’m really glad I’m starting to push myself because there are a lot of good thrillers out there and honestly this is one of them. I’m currently debating how many stars to give it. I’m thinking 4. I loved the twist at the end and that Ollie and Darby made it. I don’t think I could have coped if the book ended and she was the only one left. (hide spoiler)]

ch2-3. Makani has done something pretty bad I guess. Will the mention of grandmother’s sleepwalking be relevant? Pretty easy reading.

Ch4-7. Bit more detail than I was expecting. Reminds me of a teen movie, so it’s not seeming that scary. Bit concerned at how detached I feel from what’s described.

ch8-11. Developing relationship between Makani and Ollie is sweet, but the seemingly random nature of events would - in reality - be terrifying. Do wonder where this is going.

Finished. Review on home page. Nothing awful, but not really anything out of the ordinary.

I can’t imagine ever having to go through something like that it must have been awful. I don’t think I could cope. I’d probably lock my self in my room and stay there whilst having a mental breakdown. The characters in this had to have been so strong physically and mentally to get through something like this and I think the way every one pulled together was admirable.

I didn’t think we’d get to know the killer so early on. I thought it might be one of those books where they keep you guessing as to who the killer is where they send you towards a certain character and then you suddenly find out it wasn’t him and you keep going until you’re literally just left with the killer 😂

chapter 1 off to a good start

Page 50 feels like two different stories like it could be two separate books

got to chapter 8 was alot of detail but at the same time not enough to make me care. i really feel this would have been great if spilt in two books like a romance book and a murder book instead of mixing them together

how scare living through somthing like this must be

Ok. First off, I thought I'm so not gonna like this hahahahuhuhu. I kinda peeked a lil bit w/ the reviews GRAVE MISTAKE.

I liked the pacing of that first chapter and how the egg timer foreshadows Haley's impending death. (Ofc, it has to start w/ a death w/c is kinda cliche but effective here. The best plot device for me HAHAHA) For such a mundane act going on this chapter, it wasn't the least bit dragging. Guess, I have to commend Perkins' fluent writing style for this.

(view spoiler)[ WOW. another insta-love I so did not see coming. I'm just hoping that the 2 will have a real thing going on by the latter w/o the freaking sexual tension. But Ollie is attractive. Another reason why book boys are so much better than real boys XD

Chapter 2: (view spoiler)[Haven't had much time to read yesterday but I think the beginning was promising. I'm wondering what Makani is hiding. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter-1-13

I am really liking this books so far. I am such a wimp though. I was reading it the first night my husband got a night job and the first murder happened and I was like "maybe I will read this during the day when he's home"

After that first murder it was all kind of typical contemporary and focused on a love interest more then a murder mystery (I guess I wasn't 100% sure what this was) but then the second murder happened and it was just as creepy as the first one and now there has been a 3rd murder and it's still creepy but not nearly as creepy as the first two. What the murderer did after the 3rd kill was pretty messed up....

I am at chapter 13 and they still keep hinting at her past but have not dropped even one hint as to what she is hiding. Kind of frustrating.

Chapters 14-20

So finally in Chapter 19 and 20 we finally get to know the secret Makani is hiding from the world. Her mother is a real piece of work. What a witch she is. This book has me where I cannot stop reading it. I swear I am worried for every one of those students....

Chapter 12: (view spoiler)[I thought the second murder (victims Name was Matt I think) kinda gruesome, exactly what I expected from this book :D But I'm a wimp to when it get's to this kind of things. I'm always freaked out, but still love to read it.

It's pretty hard to remember the victims, since you don't really get lots of info about them. Exception is Rodrigo, he was at least mentioned a few times before.

I like Ollie, he is such a sweet guy and I love the relationship he and Makani are building. I really don't think he's the killer. I'm suspecting someone who is maybe jealous? (hide spoiler)]
