What did you think of it? Favorite or least favorite characters? Favorite or least favorite part?

Kate (katespofford) I had wanted to read this book as soon as I read the title. It's just so intriguing.

I wasn't exactly expecting a futuristic, Black Mirror sort of story, so that put me off a little bit. I did like how different the two boys were and how their relationship developed. Of course, two people falling in love over the course of a day was a bit too much to expect. I'm also not sure if knowing both characters were doomed that made me feel a little distant from them?

I really identified with Mateo, being the more cautious one, but I also like how outgoing Rufus was. If I had to pick a favorite part, it would be the question left at the end: if the two boys had never met, would either of them have died?

Maartje De Groot | 69 comments I want to read this book, but my tbr for february is so long

Umairah (Sereadipity) (sereadipity) I've just started reading this. So far it's good

Katelyn DePew (katelyndepew) Read this book and loved it!!! I’m not usually a book crier but I was balling!

Amie (amie410) Just finished the audiobook (which was narrated so well!) and I loved it. I cried at several different points. I loved the concept and it had me contemplating if this is something I’d enjoy knowing or not. Final answer: still unsure. 24 hours notice doesn’t seem like a lot, but like the book proves, you can make a lifetime of memories in just 24 hours.

☾ Liz ☆ Stellar Kitten Book Reviews ☆ | 23 comments I still say that it feels kind of slow at times but I really enjoyed the story overall. I thought it was kinda cute and it made me feel inspired to embrace my every day. I think I wouldn't want to know when I died. I'd definitely be a Mateo and be afraid of doing anything if I knew lol

katherine (an_everyday_penguin) | 47 comments Omg this book just kinda killed me. I wanted to read this when I first saw it but never got around to it until now and I'm actually really glad I read it. I really liked the story. I really relate to Before Mateo and it was interesting watching him completely change (change in a good way, that is).

LR (lrg367) | 7 comments I absolutely loved this book!!

Kristina (kristinaowl) | 52 comments Currently reading it and I love it!

Natalia (ntaliak) I loved this book so much! It is such an interesting read and I find the concept really intriguing! I would love for the book to have a sequel in which the "other part" is shown in a sence of how the operators work and more information about the whole world. But yes it was such a good read!!

Heather Cummings (cummings895) | 37 comments I really liked this book and how all the characters came together. Knowing they were going to die didn't make it any less sad and I was just kept reading to see how they died. It was awful and hopeful and sad and thought provoking. Enjoy the moments, make the most out of each day. I wouldn't want to know, even though they got an amazing day together. Everyday should be like this, brave, daring, spending time with loved ones, seeing and doing new things.

Vita (leosixx) First time that I read a book that I knew exactly how it will end, but still sobbed so hard my partner at the time asked me if I was hurt. I know they both die in the end, but holy damn did you still low-key see the light at the end of the tunnel for 0.2 seconds before the ending.

hattie (hattieabooks) | 60 comments I didn't really care for it. It was sad but didn't make me cry.

message 15: by Grey (new) - rated it 5 stars

Grey Klee (variegatedspoonie) | 3 comments At least for me, the how is pretty easy to spot early on, but that ending still took my breath away... there's only 2 books I've read of recent that have made me just have to sit there and absorb and process before I can go on about my day... and this was one of them.

(spoilers) Plus, how awesome is it that there's a pretty popular book (right now at the least) that mains queer boys.

hersh i found this book intriguing and sad one of the first books i have cried in....... but really gud

Unknown Reader I loved this book and can’t seem to get over it ! Especially the ending…
I loved all characters but I guess my favorite characters are the main characters - Mateo and Rufus. I was able to connect with them so well. Also, I was actually invested in their thoughts and relationships , so that’s a huge plus.

I don’t have a least favorite character, I don’t even hate peck because I can kind of understand his thinking. I don’t support it but I can see how it led to his decisions. I kinda disliked Aimee at one point and I still don’t understand some of her thinking but at the end, she did care for Rufus so I can let some things pass.

My favorite part is the whole writing style, that’s one of the reason I was so invested in these characters. The writing resonated with me and that’s really important.

My least favorite is most probably certain filler scenes where the relationship DID seem forced but thankfully it’s not that many and their relationship did seem real a lot more.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished it yesterday (sobs)
I wish there was a book about Gabriella and her last friend living their last day. The author could've called the book, "They die too"

A.Akhtar | 23 comments Read it a few weeks ago. Loved it! My favourite characters were obviously rufus and Mateo, but I also liked Linda. My least favourite character was Aimee cause she was just a B*tch and Peck, her exboyfriend.

My favourite scene was when they were at the diner, because thats when I think that they actually started being friends. My least favourite parts were when they both died. I think that the book could of been a bit longer, and that rufus’ death was a bit rushed.

S Sally | 23 comments I'm the type of person to cry about everything sad this book didn't make me cry idk call me emotionless I mean I liked it not enough to cry i feel like I wasn't you know connected to the characters much

Parker | 25 comments this was an okay book, but I found it to be overhyped. I disliked the plot structure and the point of view changes, but overall it was pretty good.

definitely agree the end was just so brutal?

thana ୨୧ I read this book and it’s soo good. I was left crying at 1am in the morning.

message 24: by lea? (new) - rated it 5 stars

lea? I finished this book in 2 days and sobbed harder than I ever have. My favorite character probably has to be Rufus, least favorite is Peck. Favorite part is in the club when Rufus and Mateo finally kiss. I don’t think I have a least favorite part…I loved all of it…

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked this book quite a bit, despite being confused on what was going on during the first few pages. But once I got into it, I really loved Mateo and Rufus. The ending really gutted me but I should have expected it lol.

message 26: by ash🐞 (new)

ash🐞 (ash_reads_books) This is not a standalone

sopiko | 1 comments the book overall is overhyped, but the plot is so food and could've expanded way more

message 28: by Hailey (new)

Hailey (KittyKarma) I loved the book honestly, and I was so sad when they died. Their causes of death were just so random I didn't expect it.

Same. I just found out the author's releasing a prequel though!

Yep. It's called The First To Die In The End. But it features two different protagonists, so there's that.

reagan | 2 comments It was pretty good, i cried at the end!

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved how their lives intertwined with the random characters. Just goes to show that little actions you do can affect others, even if you don't know them

message 34: by JQ (new) - rated it 4 stars

JQ Smith | 5 comments While I didn't cry over it, this is the book that kickstarted my love for reading! Simply put I love Rufus so much! I'm very excited to get The First to Die at the End since I heard this might be better than They Both Die at the End.

Khushboo | 9 comments It's still in my TBR. I'm dying to read to it.. since I've heard so much about it.... but I don't have time :((((

Bryanna Banks (booknerdbree) | 19 comments *CAUTION SPOILERS*

Snap! Okay, I have read so many books that the title threw me off. I was like "They both die in the end, yea sure let's see how they don't die." Boom!-author defied the odds; so messed up, I mean ugghghghhghg

Abigail Georges | 11 comments I thought that story was very well written and was a nice read. I thought that at times Rufus and Mateo were really wasting their time with doing pointless tasks. If I was told when I was gonna die I would spend it doing a lot more than running around the city with a stranger doing virtually nothing. It was a sweet and romantic story. (view spoiler)

Izabella 🪐 | 23 comments I personally loved the book. The characters were easy to love, especially the main characters. I like the small chapters from the perspectives of seemingly insignificant characters, who actually did impact/were impacted greatly by the MCs and events of the story. In that aspect, it reminded me a lot of The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon, which was really interesting to read. I found it was a really easy read and definitely got me out of a reading slump.

liv !! (0liviak8) I didn't like it and I think it's WAY overhyped. There were too many POVs, and while it was interesting to see how Death-Cast affected different people, some of the POVs distracted from the main plot and it was boring and annoying to read and in my opinion, slowed down the momentum of Mateo and Rufus's storyline. (I realize that the other POVs tied into their story, but I still think some were unnecessary, or that the same effect could've been achieved differently) The romance felt so rushed and forced as if the author only decided to add it in halfway through. The characters were likable though, I'll admit.

Suvanna (suvannap) | 3 comments It was easy for me to read, and therefore, like. It's sweet and both of the characters are very enjoyable. It does feel rather short, but considering that it only spans one entire day, it makes sense. Plus I'm a sucker for tragedy. It's more of an emotional story than it is a plot based one.

Thefemalearrow | 1 comments Currently rereading ❤️

Evelyn | 18 comments This book is so sad. Why did they have to die? 😭

Evelyn | 18 comments Okay I finished The First to Die at the End and... someone needs to get this author a therapist... there is definitely something wrong going on in his mind. Does he have issues with people he loves dying?? Is he happy to know that I've never cried harder than when I read these books?? Please I need answers.👍🏻

Malakai W. | 25 comments This book felt extremely mid and the chronic motor tic disorder rep felt like very forced disability rep where the author didn't actually care about the representation and was just checking off a box. It's good if you're looking for a sad romance.

Morgan | 14 comments Okay, y'all better not get mad at me for saying this bc it's litterly in the title, but their deaths had me crying at the end!! Like, I knew it was coming, via the title, but still! Also, I loved how the people on both their sides, welcomed the other into their inner circle.

Eden (eden_was_here) I'm currently reading in rn!! It is really good so far!

»-daly (leaving)→ Okay PLEASSSSSE NO HATE but I couldn’t even finish this. I am not homophobic, I just felt like the author was focused to much on saying “see? i’m writing a gay love story! i’m not homophobic”. You get me? I had nothing AGAINST the book, I just don’t think it was for me. Please don’t hate me guys 😅
