I just wanted to advise (in case you hadn't done this) to check the lexile for the Christie. I had one slotted in for 1956 and the lexile ended up being too low. She's bad for that.....

Norma | 1819 comments Thanks for the heads up the lexile. What if the BPL doesn't show lexile for a book?

Both of your Christies are OK for Reading the Decades.

This was at one time a YA Assignment, but has apparently been removed. It is now approved for any sub-challenges and for styles for RwS tasks.

Bea I have posted mine in #9. I think that I understood the task, and none have YA at BPL.

Bea (See message 9) So my decades are in order but my years are not...is that plan B?

You're like me. We'll get 3 out of 4 finishers.

Marina (sonnenbarke) While I'm sure I will not be able to finish RtD, I'm posting my tentative plan anyway :) Not going to read them in order, though.

15.2 Pines - 2012
15.3 The Notebooks of Serafino Gubbio - 1925
15.4 I Was a German - 1933

Owlette | 709 comments I managed to finish the RwS challenge last season, and this season will try to do the subchallenge of reading a book from each decade.

Two questions, please:
Does my tentative plan work for option D:
Different decades and years in which both are chronological (xx19, xx20, xx31)?
and
If I read Firefly Lane first (the biggest one on the list and the last one by decade) and read in order up the list to 1919, will I meet all four bonuses or do I need to start with the 1919 book? I think the answer is "yes" because ascending or descending are allowed, but want to make sure.

Tentative Plan

15.1 1919 The Mysterious Rider 164 p.

15.2 1920 The Age of Innocence 364 p. or Flappers and Philosophers 269 p.

15.3 1931 Friends and Relations 307 p.

15.4 1942 The Screwtape Letters

15.5 1953 tentatively something by Graham Greene, John Cheever, or Conrad Richter

15.6 1964 The Pushcart War (Lex 1020 or 1040) 224 p.

15.7 1975 Shine On, Bright and Dangerous Object, 192 p. or A Family Affair, 208 pages.

15.8 1986 The Cat Who Saw Red, 183 p., Lexile 830, or
1886 The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

15.9 1997 Silence: The Power of Quiet in a World Full of Noise, 189 pages.

15.10 2008 Firefly Lane, 479 p.

You can start anywhere in the sequence, meaning you do not have to start with 1 and end with 0. So if you read Firefly Lane first, it would be for task 15.1. Then you could read either for 1997 or for 1919. Once on that course you need to continue in that direction. The years you have chosen will work for all 4 bonuses if you read them in order.

Owlette | 709 comments Thanks! For me, I think I will have to start at one end or the other to avoid confusion.

You'll want to find a substitute for the Agatha Christie 1936. Some of those are YA Assignment at BPL with a Lexile below 800, and this is one of them.
