Books on my short list

I remember that was a book we either loved or hated, Ann! Haven't thought of that one in a while and haven't kept up with Teran either.

let me know how it is. i haven't gotten to it yet. :)

I get ARCs from a number of sources. I get digital ARCs from Net Galley, Edelweiss and sometimes from the authors themselves when I accept a review request from them. Net Galley no longer seems to require a blog. They are signing up Goodreads members who don't have blogs lately. Edelweiss requires a blog. Author review requests usually also require a blog. I get print ARCs from my F2F mystery book club. That requires showing up at a meeting in person.

i get them from a trade show that i go to every september. like shom, i also get egalleys from net galley and edelweiss. i have a "newish" part time job at our local indie bookstore as an event host for author events and i get them there, too.

Reacher, the eternal drifter, happens by chance on the small New Hampshire town he remembers his father was supposed to have come from. But when he starts looking for his dad's old home, he finds there's no record of anyone named Reacher ever having lived there.

Got it, I see it as a stand alone novel on August 21,2018.
You've known her your whole life...
Andrea Oliver knows everything about her mother Laura. She knows she's always lived in the small town of Belle Isle; she knows she's a pillar of the community; she knows she's never kept a secret in her life.
but she's hiding something...
Then one day, a trip to the mall explodes into a shocking act of violence and Andrea suddenly sees a completely different side to Laura.
and it could destroy you both...
Hours later, Laura is in hospital, her face splashed over the newspapers. But the danger has only just begun. Now, Andrea must go on a desperate race to uncover the secrets of her mother's past. If she can't, there may be no future for either of them...

I am quite new to using Goodreads so I am not sure if this kind of post is welcome, but my own new thriller was just published and is getting quite good reviews. I thought some of you may be interesred in considering it. It is called, Finding Max.
I wont be so bold as to post a link for it but if you are interested in learning about it you will find it listed on both Amazon and Goodreads.
I hope I have not offended anyone by posting this.
Best,
Darren M. Jorgensen

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I will, of course, keep it in mind for future postings.
Darren.

You know what? I was thinking about checking out your book. I didn't find your first post offensive even though I would consider it as something better suited as self-promo. However, I find this post in reply to what I consider a legitimate post by Barry to have a "testy" tone to it. Looking at your book now? Probably not going to happen.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I know how it feels when the fur babies are sick.

I really am sorry that I came across badly to you. I received notice later in the day that another of my correspondences was worded poorly and was mistaken for a criticism when I never meant to criticise the person. Luckily it was my sister this time, and we were able to work it out quickly.
When you posted that I had been testy (which to me means the same as being rude, really) I was struck by how my communications have, again in my life, been misunderstood. It is as though I am capable of using the written word to write books and short stories, but when it comes to emails and other correspondences of the type, I am terrible! I pride myself (not too much, but a little) in being able to craft the English language into beautiful sentences, sometimes even strong sentences -- but I find myself often misunderstood in emails and short correspondences.
So thank you, Melodie, for bringing this problem to my attention again. In the future, I really need to be able to use different language when I speak to strangers because I don't like being misunderstood, and I really hate sounding like I'm not a nice person (when I think I am an okay kind of guy). It has been a struggle for me ever since emailing people became the way to communicate.
As for Dobby, in case anyone is interested, she's a ten-year-old Black Lab/King Sheppard cross and the other day she must have eaten something outside (we live on a farm, so who knows what she got into) and it was causing her to be sick from both ends. Since she is an old dog, and since I really don't have the money to take her to the vet this time, I really needed her to heal on her own, and I was terrified that she wouldn't be able to. It was during this period that I wrote that "testy" message on the board. I had no idea what she had gotten into, and I suspected that the neighbor might have left out poison that she might have gotten into (he leaves out poison for the coyotes who kill his sheep). I really was frightened.
I thank you for understanding. I thank you for letting me know that you understand. I've been feeling terribly since reading your first note, Melodie, and it pleases me greatly that you might be understanding that I misrepresented myself to you all.
And looking at the way I worded my original email, I can easily see why you all thought I was just trying to spam the group. In reality, I've been lurking around this group for a while now but tend to be rather shy at first when I join social media groups, mostly because of my tendency to misrepresent myself (as I have obviously done yet again). But if any of you have been wondering if I have been just spamming boards on Goodreads about Finding Max, well, that is not the case at all. I only mentioned on this one board because of the subject matter and because, as I mentioned, I had some familiarity with this group. You won't be able to find a bunch of spammy posts from me all over Goodreads. I know that does happen sometimes, but not this time.
I want to invite anyone else who has strong feelings about these last few posts to feel free to contact me directly so that we don't use up any more of the space on this board. But I just want to assure you all that I am committed to trying to develop relationships here, not just spam you all. I was kind of hoping that my first post would be like a little introduction of myself to you all, but I see now that I misjudged where to place that introduction. I had, before, introduced myself in the into board, but didn't really meet anyone that way.
But I am too long-winded, even now. So I will sign off, leaving you all with only my best regards.
Darren.

Not to belabor the point (and don't feel you need to respond, I agree with your not wanting to extend this thread) but I do appreciate your explanation and the notion that you are not just a fly-by author trying to spread the word about your book. I look forward to reading your posts on what you're reading. I hope Dobby is fully recovered.

First, i am looking for printer errors. The first one i found was on the very first page in the book, before the story even begins, where the show the copyright. My copyright is for some weirdo named "Darren M, Jorgensen". See the error? Instead of a period they mistakenly used a comma. Not a huge error -- but c'mon! It is the very first page of written language! And yes, i have found even more disheartening errors, too.
Secondly, i am reading Finding Max so that i can finslly read it as a story to be entertained by. I want to experience this novel like i would any other book... for the sheer joy of it.
Thirdly, i am reading my own work to re-familisrize myself with the plot, exactly as it happens, so ythat with the writing of the sequel i wont have any continuity problems.
But i am also reading "The Last Dog" by Dawn Ireland, here on goodreads. It is quite a fascinating book, but i love the creative world building of a distopian novel. I wont say much about it now because i will be reviewing it, and probably giving it 5 stars, maybe four. Yes, it isvthat interesting to me.
Anyway, have great days shead of you. I have a book signing today that is about to start so i must sign off.
Best,
Darren M. Jorgensen

Amazon & GR say 9/4. GR has a giveaway going, which is how I found out about it.
