Confusion on Cassidy in "The Beginning of Everything"

*First of all, I'd like to say that I have not finished the book at the moment-I am still reading it. So, no spoiler alerts would be appreciated. I'll let you guys know when I have finished the book, so we can have a discussion.*

At one part in the book, after having..."slept with" Ezra, she asks him if he was ever a virgin and then he says no. Cassidy proceeds to tell him that she's saving herself(she makes a few comments about people's thoughts on virgins and how she doesn't like that phrase). I am completely confused... Did she or did she not just sleep with Ezra? Wouldn't that cancel out the virgin thing? Sorry, I am confused. If anyone could explain this to me, that would be great.

Hey Laney, I just finished reading that book and I wrote a review on it too. Though you probably shouldn't read it until you're done since it does have spoilers. I was just asking somebody that same question you posted too! Ok, according to our ticking minds we decided that she did not have technical intercourse with Ezra but performed oral copulation. It was discombobulating for me too. There's a lot of literature in terms of distinguishing between what is and isn't sex. In the most technical and physical sense I suppose she is a virgin, but spiritually that might be a different ball game. I personally found it distasteful, what did you think of it's placement in the story?

I think they just slept together in the sense that they slept in the same bed...together. Idk if that makes sense.

It was oral sex and she doesn't think that counts as intercourse (hence the outercourse" joke).
