Jane (PS) | 24334 comments 1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a great to know when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

2. Team Captain - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)

3. Name your team. Using this round's theme of SNOW WHITE, come up with a fun name. We are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 7 March.

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2.

5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!

* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.

You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.

I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.

Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A Annoucement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week if Option 2 is used, members must select their book from another team. This will be advised in the week 11 announcement.

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Key selection and completion post information. You must have ALL elements in your book posts.

The format for selection posts Option 1:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please insert a link to the qualifying bookshelf/list.
If the theme is based off the bookcover or a letter in the title etc, please just repeat the theme.

The format for selection posts Option 2:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.

Format for completion posts:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review

Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.

If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.

message 4: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I'll be tracking each team's progress separately, using the Captain's summary in each team's thread to check for accuracy.

Elizabeth (elizabeth_greece) | 1918 comments Hi everyone and welcome!
I'm Elizabeth, I live in Greece, I'm 42 yo, married, no children, 1 cat.
I read mostly MM the past years but I'd like to use for this challenge some paranormal and fantasy MF I've collected and didn't fit on any of my challenges so far. We'll see!
I hope everyone enjoy their reading during this challenge!
Please, feel free to introduce yourselves and maybe give some suggestion for our team name (theme is Snow White but the name isn't necessary to fit the theme).

message 8: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (pokey36) | 1992 comments Hi Elizabeth. Hey everyone else! I'm pretty sure I've been on teams with everyone before so Yay! I'm 47, married, 2 teenaged daughters, 3 cats, 2 dogs. I escape all of them quite a bit to go read, hence why I read so many books. :)

Can't wait to start this sucker. I'm ready!!

message 9: by Wax (new)

Wax (waxapplelover) | 337 comments Hi team! I'm in Texas (CST), and usually read MM romance. I love team challenges because otherwise I don't feel motivated enough to finish. :)

message 10: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 2161 comments Hello team! Why are we giving our ages! Seriously, I am sad to report that I have reached the age where I am in full denial and I actually have to do the math...so 46. 3 kids ... 12,15,18 and husband who works out of the country. No pets much to the dismay of my children who keep right on begging for them despite having lived with me for their entire lives. I live in NJ, that is EST. I read only the occasional MF, so I am delighted to see MM readers on the team. I was assuming that option 2 - Select a book from the 'READ' list of a team-mate that they read in the last 6 months AND that the team-mate rated at least 3 stars. wouldn't work for me. I am looking forward to checking out your shelves.

Team names...I really wish I was good at this...I don't know. Snow White is my least favorite Disney Princess, the twittering and complete lack of personality, she's vacuous. (Why do I have such a strong opinion about this?) Anyway, the only thing I like about Snow White is Chris Hemsworth as the Hunstmen...rather long for a team name.

Emeli Webb | 292 comments Hi everyone i'm emeli i'm a twentyeight year old half latina from the land of the moderate sweden where i live with my videogame obsessed boyfriend and our fat cat.

I've just sent another PM. Hopefully we'll hear soon!

In the meantime pick a name without beppy's input. I'd like to announce the first theme on Wednesday evening.

UnusualChild{beppy} | 1282 comments I am SO sorry. I posted something yesterday but it didn't take? Weird. And I can't remember my *absolute masterpiece introduction that was clever and very humourous.*

Hi, I'm Beppy. I live in northern British Columbia, and I will be on PST come Sunday. I have no hubs, no kids, no pets (which is making me sing Roger Miller's "King of the Road" right now.) I read just about every genre with a heavy emphasis on m/m, but since I'm just finishing up the Spell Challenge, I may be reading more m/f for a little bit.

I like Pixie Chicks, for some reason, and Snow Not-So-White.

*That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Elizabeth (elizabeth_greece) | 1918 comments Susan, just on time! I was about to declare our name and now we have 5-5.
Jane is probably going to post the first theme tonight, so we need to sort the name quickly.
So, could everyone (except of Emelie and Susan) please pick between Snow Not-So-White and Pixie Chicks, as soon as possible, preferably before the theme is called?

Snow-not-so-white 4 (Susan, Beppy, Elizabeth, Shannon) //Pixie Chicks 1 (Emelie)

Susan A | 2161 comments I'd like to read The Dragon's Tale. This is a m/m Arthur/Lancelot Camelot story. It's set in ancient Britain. The book mentions Britannia but not England or Britain.

Is this acceptable? Do I need to ask Jane in a separate thread?

(I have literally hundreds of other books set in Europe I can read)

UnusualChild{beppy} | 1282 comments There are so many books I could read! I could re-read The Moonspinners (Greece) or Madam, Will You Talk? (France) or The Summer Of The Spanish Woman (Spain) or A Falcon for a Queen (Scotland) or Wings of the Falcon (Italy). I kinda don't want to read a book set in England, but all the books that I'm gravitating toward right now are set there.

*runs off to find more books*

UnusualChild{beppy} | 1282 comments Week 1: Europe

Love, in English
Pages: 439
How it qualifies: takes place in Spain

UnusualChild{beppy} | 1282 comments Right now, I'm feeling a little battered by some of the crappy books I've had to read, so comfort re-reads were the first on my list of choices for this category, but I have decided to brave a new author.

Option 1

Survival Game (Men of London, #9) by Susan Mac Nicol
Survival Game by Susan Mac Nicol
Pages: 204
Read: 3/9/18
Rating: ★★★

I'm definitely in the minority with this one but just like the last book, it didn't connect for me. I'm not sure why but I was, dare I say it....bored. I liked the characters well enough and should have felt all kinds of things for them but I didn't. Could be me, for sure. I'm still enjoying the series so hopefully the next one will work better for me.

message 46: by Susan A (last edited Mar 12, 2018 01:02PM) (new)

Susan A | 2161 comments Week #1 Completion Post

Option 1

The Dragon's Tale (Arthur Trilogy, #2) by Harper Fox
The Dragon's Tale by Harper Fox
pages 168pg
read: 3/12/18
4 stars
How it fits: set in Britannia, approved in QA thread

This is book 2 in a planned trilogy. MM tale of Arthur & Lancelot. I'm not sure how this happened, but I realized I don't actually know the story of Arthur Lancelot Camlot Guenyvere Merlin etc. Seems like I should. Anyway, I think I would enjoy the story more if I knew the basics of that tale. I love Harper Fox's writing when she is not injecting political commentary...fortunately none of that here. It's a beautifully descriptive magical tale, but less romance that the first book.
