Blackwell practiced what is now known as chiropractic. It was actually introduced in the 1890s so the timeline is right. Did you recognize it as such?

Phrynne | 607 comments Yes, plus he seemed to be using some kind of hypnotherapy as well.

I recognized it, too, and the hypnotherapy threw me. It would have been interesting to know where he learned his skills.

We had to get to know this man in retrospect and there were so many contradictions, depending on who was sharing their perspectives.

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments It seemed an odd combo to me...a chiropractor who used hypnosis on his patients. I understand manipulating the spine would eventually relieve the pain. What was the hypnotherapy for? Would it keep his clients from dwelling on the pain? Would he use it on the female clients so they would fall for him and give him gifts...like rent-free homes?

He definitely was an opportunist and I’m sure he used hypnotherapy for self serving reasons at times.

I thought he was using the hypnotherapy to have his female clients adore him and be willing to do whatever he wanted sexually to them. In addition to the hypnotherapy making his clients more open for his adjustments to their spins and hips and such.

I suspected that, Christina.
