Jim | 21809 comments A better business model than writing books!

Go to https://bookconnect.review/ and you can pay for downloads AND there might be some reviews!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I hope she doesn't write.

One of the biggest question I constantly got was “How do I deliver my book when someone wants to review it?”

Is that trying to market to people who've never heard of emails?
If so, how are they meant to find this website?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Anyone who gives her money deserves to waste it, I reckon.

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Alicia - exactly what I was thinking!

message 8: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments still wondering why, even with Book Funnel, I've got to pay people to give stuff away
Probably explains why I don't even aspire to be a B list writer :-(

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments My thoughts too, Jim!

message 10: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I remember seeing on one of the forums, somebody who was about to publish their book and had set aside a thousand US dollars for promotion and were looking for advice as to how to spend it!

I was tempted to tell them to send it to me which would teach them a useful life lesson.
But still it seems that the new generation of writers are being encouraged to step forward with their manuscript in one hand and their credit card in the other.

Tim | 8539 comments I spend nothing on promotion. But then I also make nothing from sales. So I suppose it evens out . . .

message 12: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments that's pretty much where I'm coming from as well Tim

David Edwards | 417 comments Self-publishing has meant that those people who used to give their money to Vanity Publishers now have cash burning a hole in their pockets. Kudos to the illiterate who has thought of a way of helping them to de-stress!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Rosemary and I should start billing every drop n run.

I reckon £100 each would do nicely.

David Edwards | 417 comments Do you administrators have the ability to customise Goodreads Discussions? Perhaps you could add something along the lines of "We haven't seen you before/in a while. Please could you confirm your identity/you are not a bot by entering your bank branch and account number."

message 16: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Given the level of desperation some of them display, they'd probably fall for it.

Certainly it's impressive how fast people have mobilised to exploit the new market.
Even HMRC probably makes more out of Tallis Steelyard than I do!

Joseph | 19 comments I avoid this trap by writing books that I can't even pay for people to read ;-)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4835 comments You win the internets today, Joseph.

Yes, I think the internet is definitely Joseph's :-)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I reckon I get about three offers like this a week.

So far I have managed to resist. spending money.

message 21: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Nobody offers to review mine - but MILLIONS of people want me to review theirs!

message 22: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments That's the price of fame, Kath.

I've had one of my reviews taken down recently as I know the author online, and lost a couple of reviews of my stuff for the same reason.

message 23: by David (last edited Mar 09, 2018 01:29AM) (new)

David Edwards | 417 comments Just what exactly is 'knowing an author online'? For instance, there are more than 180,000 authors on Goodreads. Surely Amazon doesn't take down reviews by authors on Goodreads of books by other authors on Goodreads just because they're both on the site?

It would need interaction, and beyond 'hey I love your book!' kind. Certainly not just being on the same site.

message 25: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I think that 'knowing the author' thing is a bit of mythology. They take reviews down for random reasons then sometimes put them back. Sometimes not.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Wow, that's expensive!

"If it’s too complicated then the person may not get around to reviewing your book."

What, like logging into yet another account?!?
