Important Things To Remember:

***There is no deadline to finish a book for a called category, however in order for a book to count you must have had at least 100 pages left of the book to read in order for said book to work for the category called.

**Because of MIA players in the past, with this challenge you must comment in your team's thread within a week of a new category getting called (unless it is a planned absence). Failure to do so twice in a row will result in your removal from the team."

Book Rules:

• Books must be at least 100 pages.
• Cookbooks, Picture books, Manga, Graphic Novels, Poetry books are not allowed for this challenge. Aside from that, any books over 100 pages count for the challenge.

Read all the rules here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments The first category was Horse (Standalone).

We can read a book that begins with the letter S for Standalone; a book with a horse on the cover; or a book that is not part of a series.

I'm going to go with
A Refuge Assured by Jocelyn Green

It is a standalone, so it'll work for me.

message 6: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) Hey all! So glad to be on team with y'all. :D

The book I am going to read is Saving Amelie. Starts with an S. :)

message 7: by Karis (new)

Karis | 220 comments Hey! So happy to be on this team. *waves at SG*

Just trying to sort out what book to read... Maybe The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel ? It's a standalone, and one I'm getting out from the library for our nonfiction read in another group. :) Plus I've just been meaning to read it.

message 8: by Bess (new)

Bess | 2584 comments Hi all!!! Super excited to be reading again! I took a hiatus to learn to knit! It was so much fun! Gotta pick a book now!

message 9: by Bess (new)

Bess | 2584 comments Annabeth's War by Jessica Greyson
I'm thinking this one...thoughts? It's not part of a series (I think).

message 10: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) I think that works, Bess. :)

message 14: by Medomfo (new)

Medomfo | 43 comments Hi all. Melanie has allowed me to join this group. I think I'll be reading Interrupted by Rachel Coker as that is a standalone novel.

message 15: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) Welcome, Medomfo! And good choice! :)

message 16: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments We get a new category tomorrow to work on.

How are you doing on your book for Horse?

I'm about halfway finished with mine.

Well, my book's been at the library all week, and I haven't been able to pick it up. (It's been a rather busy past week for me.) But, I should have it today, and can read and review it as quickly as I can. Thanks for asking, Dawn.

message 18: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) I'm a few pages through mine. Hopefully I'll finish it by the end of the week. :)

message 19: by Medomfo (new)

Medomfo | 43 comments Same here, Sarah Grace. This week has crazy at school.

message 20: by Bess (new)

Bess | 2584 comments I'll be up late cranking through mine. The week got away from me. *sigh

message 21: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments The second category is...

Tree (4)
Options for completing this category:
1: read a book with a TREE on the cover or in the title.
2: read a book that is the 4th book in its series (e.g. An Inconvenient Beauty (Hawthorne House, #4) by Kristi Ann Hunter)
3: read a book that starts with the letter F (for Four/4)

Be sure to check into your team's chat thread before the next category gets called and let them know your reading plans. Have fun guys!

Next category will be called: 3/21

I'm not sure yet what I'll read. I may do the Kristi Anne Hunter one (book 4 in the Hawthorne House series). We'll see. There's another one I may do as well.

Hopefully I can knock out the Refuge Assured by the end of the weekend.

Also, I will be out of the country from April 7 -12 and will not be able to get online. This is just a heads up.

message 22: by Bess (new)

Bess | 2584 comments Thanks Dawn!!

message 23: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I'm going to read China Garden by Liz Berry for Tree. It's an older one of mine.

Also don't forget to check in.

message 24: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) Thanks for keeping track of things, Dawn! I already finish my book for category two - Falls Like Lightning by Shawn Grady . And I just finished my book for the first one. I ended up DNFing Saving Amelie and going with Summer of Dreams (From This Moment, #0.5) by Elizabeth Camden . :) I'll get my reviews up soon!

message 25: by Karis (new)

Karis | 220 comments I'm third through my nonfiction for the first called category. I'm planning on having it read and reviewed by the end of the week by the latest.

message 26: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I should be able to finish my tree book tonight. and I forgot to update, but my horse book is also finished. I'll get the reviews up tomorrow.

Flower hasn't been called yet. :) That was just the example used in the rules. Sorry for any confusion...

message 29: by Bess (new)

Bess | 2584 comments I'll get my first book reviews up today. And start book 2 tomorrow. I know book 3 will be called today...a little behind...lol

message 30: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments It's actually already posted. I'll bring it over here soon.

message 31: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments The Third category is...

Key (2)
Options for completing this category:
1: read a book with a KEY on the cover or in the title.
2: read a book that is the 2nd book in its series
3: read a book that starts with the letter T (for Two/2)

Be sure to check into your team's chat thread before the next category gets called and let them know your reading plans. If it has been two weeks since you last checked into the team's thread (and it isn't a planned absence), you will be removed from the team. Have fun guys!

Next category will be called: 3/28

Also, per the notes on the other thread, if a book starts with the word "The", it'll count.

message 32: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) This one is gonna be a tough one for me . . . I'll have to go search my kindle for something.

message 33: by Bess (new)

Bess | 2584 comments I will probably purchase the second book in the series...been needing to purchase for the past 3 years! Faith's Keys (The ChristKeepers #2) by Grace Walton

message 34: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) I think I'm going with The Lacemaker by Laura Frantz . I've been wanting to read it for a while!

message 35: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Sarah that one is so good!

I'll probably work on finishing The Masterpiece.

message 36: by Medomfo (new)

Medomfo | 43 comments Ok, so for the second challenge, I'm currently finishing off Totally Unfair by Nancy Rue which is the fourth book of the 'Nama Beach High series. For the third challenge, I will probably get The Centurion's Wife or a book that is second in its series x

message 37: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments My reviews for both Horse and Tree are posted.

message 38: by Karis (last edited Mar 23, 2018 11:59AM) (new)

Karis | 220 comments I finished my book for the second category, Branwen's Quest (Warriors of Aralan #1) by Katelyn Buxton . The cover has trees, which is how it counts. I'm hoping to get my review typed up for it tonight. ;)

I still need to finish my book for category #1. I'm sorry that I've gotten behind on this challenge. I'm going to try to catch up this weekend.

Also, any recs for this third challenge would be great. I'm still trying to find a book for that one.

message 39: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Karis, if your book starts with the letter T or the word "The", it'd work.

Some possibilities:
The Golden Vial (Legends of the Realm #3) by Thomas Locke - Title starts with T
The Preacher's Bride by Jody Hedlund - Title starts with T
The Accidental Guardian (High Sierra Sweethearts Book #1) by Mary Connealy - Title starts with T
Take Two (Above the Line, #2) by Karen Kingsbury - Title starts with T & 2nd in the series
Whispers (Glenbrooke, #2) by Robin Jones Gunn - Second in the series

message 40: by Bess (new)

Bess | 2584 comments I'm almost done with book 2.
Forget Paris (Love in Store #4) by Autumn Macarthur
It starts with "F" and it is the 4th book of the series. :)

message 41: by Dawn (last edited Mar 27, 2018 06:48AM) (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Melanie,
Would this one work for key? It's 128 pages, not a picture book, though there are pictures in it.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

The link takes you to the book page, but for whatever reason it may not be showing yet. I emailed the publisher about it. And she had to find it via ISBN.

I looked at the book on Amazon and it is fine. The book works for Key, since it starts with The. :)

message 43: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Awesome! Then I'll be using it for Key.

I'm trying to utilize my review titles whenever I can.

message 44: by Bess (new)

Bess | 2584 comments I should be done with my "key" book at the latest tomorrow. I decided on: The Key on the Quilt (The Quilt Chronicles #1) by Stephanie Grace Whitson
There's a key on the cover and in the title.

message 45: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) I'll start mine probably today.

message 46: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Karis, how are you doing?

message 47: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments New Category.

The Fourth category is...

Book or letter (2)
Options for completing this category:
1: read a book with a Book OR letter on the cover or in the title.

Next category will be called: April 5th at approximately 12:01 AM (ET)

message 48: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Melanie,
Could I get a little clarification on the Book OR Letter portion of this? When you say letter, are you talking about a letter like you would get from a pen pal (mailed, envelope, etc)? With Love, Wherever You Are by Dandi Daley Mackall This one had portions of the letter on the cover.

Or would words on the cover that are not part of the title count? This is the one I'm thinking of here. Until We Find Home by Cathy Gohlke

There is writing (I think it's part of a quote from CS Lewis) on the cover at the top.

I was talking about a letter that you would receive in the mail/be given, but both of those would work, as the words look like a written letter.

message 50: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Thanks Melanie!

I'm going to read Until We Find Home for Book/Letter then.
