I find myself still wondering how to review it. It felt like a "different" read to me, but it certainly hit all of my high notes. Its written largely in one voice, although there is a dual storyline 14 years apart. In one storyline, a young muslim Turkish girl is conflicted about her faith and her beliefs in general, coming from a religiously split family, and from her familial and cultural experiences. She goes to Oxford for University, and falls under the spell of a charismatic professor who lectures on God and uncertainty. Its his job and life passion to have folks with different points of view discourse and debate together. And there is some arrogance and charisma and personal baggage issues of his own. In University, Peri our conflicted heroine, meets two women, each of muslim descent, who are also enthralled and enamored of this same professors. Thus we meet the Sinner, the Believer, and the Confused. The current storyline is 14 years later, where Peri is a Turkish wife and mother, attending a glitzy business and social dinner in Istanbul. Its brilliantly written, and I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed this read.
