I didn't get the'notification only' option when joining, but instead went for the 'Digest' one. I hope this way I can get my updates. Hope there's no uncertainty in this option.

I don't think it should be a problem. I also go for digest mostly. Notifications are too many sometimes especially if you are a member of many groups. However, you can go to your account settings-emails- there will be option of group email preferences. You can chose notification option there.

It's perfectly okay! You don't need to ask at all. Once January starts, you are free to join in! Enjoy the book. :D

Thank you. It's still not usually allowed but we'll make an exception. I've unfrozen the comments.

I haven't found anything that says what books qualify for book counts and page counts. Some groups have a minimum page count so that novellas don't count. I read and review children's books as well, and I count them in my GR annual challenge, but I don't count the individual short stories I read.

Do you have any guidelines for these?

I do not think there is any minimum or max page or book counts, so you update what you've read no matter how high and low, and the discussion leaders will update it:)

For the spell your name challenge, is there a minimum letter count? My middle name is Kim and I wanted to make sure that was okay. Because I'm definitely not using my first name!! lol... If I need to, I can use my middle name and like the first initial to my first or last name... I just want to make sure it's fair!

My name's Deepthi and there are two "E's" there. Should I read two books starting from E or one?

can someone clarify for me a bit how does a "buddy read" thing works ?
Like is that a one to one book disscution with a person who is reading the same book that I am reading or is it a group disscution? and are the books we get to read in the "BR" limited like I get to choose from some ? or do I just announce that I am reading for example Throne of glass and set the month and like whomever is reading that also will be paired with me ? And once we have been paired how do we communicate with each other ? Do we send Goodreads messages to each other for any online text application like whatsapp maybe?

This is mostly a group discussion although there is a discussion called, "Find A Partner To BR With Off Group!" for buddy reading with other people for one on one.

It is limited. For example, this month's books are The Woman In the Window, Cinder, and Strange The Dreamer. You can choose from those books and join the discussions for those only. If you do want to be paired with someone, look at the group that I have mentioned in the first paragraph.

If you're talking about the one on one thing, you can communicate through Goodreads private messages or for 3 or more people in a buddy read, there is a sub group for that.

No problem! It's great that you're asking questions and hopefully I answered all of them without confusion!

As Mylien explained, you have two options: Read with the group, or read a book which the group isn't reading at the moment with another member/s.

The Thread Mylien mentioned can be used if you are reading a book that the group is not. You can announce the book (no limits) and the time and ask if someone is interested in reading with you. If you find someone, you can use GR messages to make it work or you can ask in the link provided within the thread to create a folder for you. See this for this option:

The normal Buddy Reads we do are books mentioned on the home page. They are selected via nominations (you can put in your book too!) and then finalized through polls. They are set fro at least a month and you can join in any time.
We are currently reading 3 books. They are displayed on the home page and you can find their folders there too. Feel free to ask us more.

It's the right place. Actually we haven't had polls for that. Nominations end on 15th and the book will be announced 2 or 3 days after that. But you can see the possible books. There are 5:

Hmm... This seems to solve a bit of my confusion.

That's good. You can always ask if you have more confusion. You should read the Guide on homepage. It'll solve most problems.

So just to be clear in Readathon we read books by our own choice while in Sprints they are nominated ?
