The only thing I’ve ever read by Kiese Laymon’s before this is his essay How to Slowly Kill Yourself and Others in America which I loved and I’m glad to finally be able to read Long Division!
I’m on chapter 3 at the moment. Some initial thoughts: The writing style and satire reminds of The Sellout by Paul Beatty (I think I prefer Kiese Laymon’s style). I had no idea that this book was so funny, there are some real laugh out loud moments (the Uncle Relle bit, the section in the Principal’s office, “Ms Kanye” (!) )
This is my first title by the author. I haven’t had a chance to read The Sellout yet.
I do feel there will be a lot of laugh out loud moments. Lol

I’m ready to start American Street — I skimmed through a couple of chapters earlier today and it looks really great. Would you be up for that now or later this month or next month? I’m flexible :)
I wasn’t a fan of this one either. It was ok. I read American Street and really enjoyed it. We can discuss whenever you’re ready.
Feel free to read along and join the discussion!
