For my nerdy book, I chose to read “More Happy Than Not” by Adam Silveira. I was really excited about this book just by the summary and cover. I felt that I was going to be able to relate with the book, just like the main character my dad also commuted suicide. This too sent me into a depressive state where I thought about harming myself. I felt a strong tie with the character and book. However, what I really enjoyed about this book was that the main character never gave up even after all the struggles. This young boy was strong enough to not only recover from one of the scariest things but was also able to preserve and find happiness. He was able to look towards the positives rather than the negatives and because of that he was able to follow a better path.
Another aspect of the book that I enjoyed besides being able to relate, was the strong ties. It seemed that whoever Aaron was friends with or whoever he came in contact with he formed a strong bond and all of these people seemed to really care for him. In fact teachers, friends, and colleagues were all concerned with Aaron’s future even when he wasn’t. All of the support and back up really helped Aaron to realize he was worth it.
This book is sad, heart reaching, brave, loving, and almost anything else. This young boy faces many obstacles and decisions and really struggles along the way, but overall I think he begins to appreciate things in a new light. Aaron was able to change his fate with the help of others and his own personal will.
Although this book was not my favorite I do think it was a very good read. It was sentimental while relaying a very important lesson and relating to those who go through similar struggles. I think this book was a touching read that had a major impact.
