Ben Marcus Rick Riordan’s book, The Hammer of Thor, is an action packed fantasy fiction book. Magnus Chase and his friends go on a quest to find the lost hammer of Thor. Not only has the hammer been lost, it is in the hands of the enemy. Without this hammer the Norse gods will not be able to defend against an approaching army of giants. Contrary to popular belief that Thor is the only one that can lift the hammer, several giants together can also do it. As Magnus travels the United States looking for the lost hammer Magnus faces a nightmare, Loki, the god of deception. Loki is Magnus’s only hope if he wishes to obtain the hammer and stop Ragnarok. Ragnarok is the end of the world, where the evil forces of Loki destroy the good Norse gods. On top of this Magnus has a new floor mate, Alex, a son of Loki. Alex is unpredictable and hot tempered with the upmost hatred for Loki. At first Magnus does not know how to deal with Alex. As Magnus and Alex work together for they greater good of the world, he begins to accept him. With help from Magnus and his friends, Alex becomes accepted by the members of Valhalla, the Norse afterlife. Not judging a book by its cover and friendship play an important role in this book. Magnus has to work with an Alex who he is very unsure about and also work along side his friends. Riordan uses humor and irony to give the book a funny side which draws many readers to his works. This book receives a four out of five stars for the interesting plot and the intriguing characters.

Matthew He did a really good job explaining the story and how and why things happened, and he did not give the ending away. The review was very good but the themes were hard to find

Katherine Wright This review was put together very well and looks as though a lot of time and effort was put into the writing. The way the themes were arranged were well placed. A little more emotion could be shown through the summary of the book could have made it even better.
