Kate | 643 comments My TBR list for the Readathon looks something like this:

The Iliad by Homer (currently on book 10 of 24)
Goldseekers by Jane Johnson Shapes (The X-Files Middle Grade, #6) by Ellen Steiber Favorite Greek Myths by Bob Blaisdell A Tale of Two Cities by Gill Tavner Witches Abroad (Discworld, #12) by Terry Pratchett Sharpe's Story by Bernard Cornwell
+ assorted graphic novels to choose from

Bit of a mixed bag and all fairly short so I'll feel like I'm making progress - thanks to those who've done this before for the tip!
Not expecting to get too far with The Iliad as its heavy going!

message 3: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments Started off with finishing an audio book as I had some plans for this morning and had to do the first hour in the car on the way home.
Doctor Who: The Last Voyage
David Tennant can read to me anytime! lol

message 4: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments 1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I'm in the Uk, and we started at 1pm lunchtime!
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? Finishing Terry Pratchett's Witches Abroad.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Hazelnut chocolate.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I work with animals and my hobbies include calligraphy and embroidery.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? This is my first read-a-thon. I'm excited about reading alongside everyone else in this community and getting involved in some of the hourly discussions.

Hour 2 and 3 Progressing nicely with Witches Abroad

message 5: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments Hour 4 I've switched and concentrated on Favorite Greek Myths

message 6: by Ann A (new)

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments You're doing great! I read my first Terry Pratchett last year and really enjoyed it.

message 7: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments Thanks Ann A, I've read a few and enjoyed Pyramids the most but Witches Abroad is so well written and laugh out loud funny. I can't put it down which is just as well for this readathon!

Hours 5 & 6 finished reading Favorite Greek Myths and added the 87 pages to the 1 million page challenge.

message 8: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments Hours 7-10 I've alternated between Witches Abroad and Shapes
Think I need a bit of sleep now so I'll be back soon.

Oh man The Iliad! Hope you don't start with that one! lol. The Keeper of Lost Things is in my long-term TBR. I'm going with comics/graphic novels this time around!

message 17: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments Ha ha! Yes The Iliad is an on going project! I'm on book 12 so not starting from scratch but its only by doing a readathon that I make any headway with it! Hoping this one will give me a much needed boost! I've got a couple of graphic novels on standby but I may take a look at your list to give me some inspiration for future reads. :)

message 18: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments This is my second Dewey's readathon and I'm a bit more clued up with the need for snacks and menu planning this time round. I've already been shopping and have the following at the ready:

Breakfast:
Fresh fruit salad - ready to assemble tomorrow and stick in the fridge.
Yoghurts & cereal bar

Lunch:
Wholemeal pitta bread, bacon & baked beans! - *note to self remember kitchen roll - can be messy!*

Tea:
Turkey stirfry
Mozzarella & sundried tomato salad

Snacks:
Numerous bags of Skips (crisps left over from a Japanese themed party last weekend - don't ask!)
Mini Icecream cornets (we're having a heatwave in the UK atm)

Microwave readymeal (Chicken Tikka Massala) for emergency

Kate (kathrynlouwca) I love how organized you are. But every time I see your thread, I want to click on it thinking it is mine since I usually go by Kate. LOL Good luck with the reading!

message 21: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments LOL I've thought the same about your thread!!

Its 8am here and I started reading about an hour ago. I couldn't face the early hours but I'm hoping to see it through to 1am tonight.

Kate | 643 comments 10pm-11pm Dead Man's Ransom 16 pages
11pm-12 Dead Man's Ransom 3 pages
12-1am sleep

I really tailed off at the end and was just too tired to continue. :(
But overall I'm really happy with the amount I read.

message 33: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments Closing Survey!
1. Which hour was most daunting for you? The last 2 (I just can't focus on reading so late at night!)

2. Tell us ALLLLL the books you read!
Dead Man's Ransom
Bride of the Water God, Volume 1 (finished)
The Iliad
I Know What You Did Last Wednesday (finished)
The Keeper of Lost Things (finished)

3. Which books would you recommend to other Read-a-thoners?
I wish I'd saved The Hunger Games Trilogy Boxset for this readathon, something like that is great because I couldn't put it down!

4. How did you feel about this first-ever Reverse Readathon? Should we do it again?
Loved it and would definitely join in another one.

5. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? Would you be interested in volunteering to help organize and prep in October?
I'll be here to join in, the next one's already in my diary! I'd be happy to share co-ordination of the group scavenger hunt that we had here on Goodreads last time. Maybe oversee a couple of threads like A-Z or colours. Just a thought if others wanted to share the load too. :)

message 34: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments Woo Hoo I'm in again!
May struggle to participate fully though as my family have other plans.
Would you believe it the 20th Oct is the evening we've chosen for our literary themed meal. Each of us is doing a different course based on a novel. The rest of us have to guess the book! I've got the soup course. Can't reveal my book though as some of the guests are members of goodreads and I can't afford them finding out in advance! But I promise to list the menu so you can all try and guess the books! :)

That sounds so cool! Come back and tell us about the courses and books!

message 37: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments Thanks Susy and Elyse. It should be fun but I'm annoyed its on Readathon weekend! At least I'll be doing something book related though and I can listen to an audio while I make the soup!
Yes I'll list the menu on here so you can see how inventive everyone gets (or not!) lol
