I been looking for The Last Unicorn when I am out an about. Not an easy find for me so far.

Lesle, I suggest you look for The Last Unicorn on Amazon or abebooks. Both copies I have found over the past few years came from amazon.

I can assure anyone desiring to read The Last Unicorn that the 80’s movie only scratched the surface. The book is way better. As always.

@Kathy we are reading the Gormenghast series for the next few months. Titus Groan will be next month I believe if you want to join us! Great list so far! I want to read Solaris too. I can’t find it anywhere though.

@Samantha the book is always better unless it’s the 100 series lol.

Patrick, I ended up buying Solaris as an ebook for a reasonable price. It is an unusual book.
I have been reading the works of Lovecraft lately. They are strangely addictive.

Lovecraft is very addictive!! Herbert West Reanimator is my favorite of his.

Thanks Patrick! Solaris is amazing. I couldn't write a review of it after only one reading. I intend to reread it and then put my thoughts together.

Solaris kind of gave me the same vibe The Turn of the Screw gave me. My imagination ran wild a couple of times throughout the book.

The Shadow over Innsmouth--seriously creepy.
I read The Island of Dr. Moreau last month and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. (Judging by the movies that have been made of it)

I just read a short story from a fragment by Emily Bronte and re-edited by Joanna Russ (of the "Female Man" and "Alix" fame). Its called "The Death of Augusta" and appears in Jessica Amanda Salmonson's first "Amazons" fantasy anthology from 1979. The British Library dates Emily Brontes original manuscript from 1837.

"The Brontes invented imaginary countries...Angria, set in Africa [and] four kingdoms which together made an island in the North Pacific: Gondal, cold, mountainous, rugged, full of lakes, forests and rocky heath...The central figure of Emily's Gondal was a woman: Augusta Geraldine Almeda (sometimes called Rosina of Alcona) royal, passionately ambitious, strong, beautiful and eventually Queen of Gondal."

I need to see which sci-fi / fantasy books I read in 2019 and where they fit into that reading challenge. Last night I finished the last book in the Wrinkle in Time quintet. Fun series. Now I want to read her other books with the Murray’s and O’Keefe’s.
