I have just started this one today.
I thought the first chapter was rather poignant, with Wendy Trevor and Edith Wilson coming to the realization that now the war was over, they weren't going to be able to enjoy each others friendship, and how much they were going to miss that.

I just started, too. I agree that relationship is very moving in the first chapter, and a little humorous with the policeman stopping by to check them out

Yes, a nice gossip before they all have to get back to real life.
I'm really enjoying it, loving the way the characters are drawn, though some of them are quite ghastly. Wendy has gone down a bit in my estimation, after the first chapter.

I’m enjoying it, too. I see what you mean about Wendy. But my opinion of Mrs Wilson is still high (at least, so far)

I have finished. Really liked Mrs Wilson, also I liked Miss Evadne. She seemed to be thinking of the young peoples long term happiness, rather than what people would think. (Keeping it vague for now).

Half way through reading The Village and enjoying it so far. Poor Margaret , having a Mother like Wendy !!

Karen, I thought Wendy was absolutely awful. She seems to care far more about what people will think than she does about her own daughter.

Just starting this today so hopefully will have some thoughts to share soon! Your comments so far have intrigued me.

Totally agree Tania, Wendy Trevor is a very unlikeable character :/

I loved the opening chapter, I thought she seemed nice there, but my opinion of her went down rapidly. First impressions don't always last.
