Rules For POFM:

1) Pick 3 books for the person you are assigned to by deadline specified
2) Read as many of the books assigned to you as possible by the end of the month
3) Post a completed post (one per book, or one when complete with all books). You may include a date, rating, and brief review.
4) If you do not make picks for 2 consecutive months (without letting me know) you will be removed from the list. I try to send out reminders towards the end of the selection time to anyone not having made picks, but this isn't always possible. In order to not have people waiting for people who don't show up, I will remove you after 2 months of not making selections.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness ~ this is high on my tbr
Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas ~ beats out Lake Silence in case you fell like romance

Oh, wait, I see that you are currently reading Magic Triumphs, so replace it with

Ipshita: Great picks, Marla! Thank you. Kate Daniels is one of my favourite series as well. I finished the book last week (yet to update it here). Looks like we've got similar taste in books :D

Wow, Nancy85, that was too many books to choose from. If I picked a book out of order in a series, please read the next one.

Revenge of the Witch (The Last Apprentice / Wardstone Chronicles, #1) by Joseph Delaney ~ I enjoyed this YA fantasy, horror series
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen ~ read this for my book club and we all liked it
Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne ~ I haven't read this yet, but someone recommended it for me in October

[I really wanted to pick [book:Heartsick|657034] because it is my favorite serial killer series, but it is super gruesome and it looked too violent than what you've been reading and enjoying lately.]

April: Marla here are your November picks
Bone Crossed (Mercy Thompson, #4) by Patricia Briggs . A Fistful of Charms (The Hollows, #4) by Kim Harrison . Blameless (Parasol Protectorate, #3) by Gail Carriger

I will be traveling without reliable internet from 8/20-8/25 so please take me off the list for September and add me back in October with the same book list. (I would actually LOVE for someone to pick for me for September, but I will not be able to pick for someone)

Thank you, Marla

Cyndee: For Marla:

When He Was Wicked (Bridgertons, #6) by Julia Quinn - just because it's one I'm currently reading myself :)
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger - because it's the book on this shelf that's been on your TBR the longest
Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris - something different than the first two, a nice little mystery

Cyndee ~ thanks soooooo much for the picks! I was going to beg someone to pick for me to find you already did, thank you so much! And some good looking books that I'm looking forward to reading.

I like the format of emails, instant messages, video transcriptions, blogs, etc. The weird, choppy format and slow start take a bit to get over. They take a lucrative contract to create a worm hole from a new area with unknown new inhabitants. Like lots of science fiction, it addresses some sensitive topics but between different alien species instead of different human races. This story had great examples of friendship, family ties, loyalty, personal growth, prejudice, bullies, scientific ethical issues, morality vs law, genocide, and different types of sexual encounters.

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger ~ Mixed reviews, but I recently listened to the audiobook and I really liked it

Jaime: Marla, for you I picked:

Golden Son (Red Rising Saga, #2) by Pierce Brown The Wells Bequest (The Grimm Legacy, #2) by Polly Shulman & The Bad Place by Dean Koontz

Review: Darrow is a pawn in a larger chess game, okay maybe a bishop or castle, but still just a middle player who doesn't know the whole plan nor even who else is playing on his side. I despise politics so I expected not to like this story, but there was lots of action and intrigue to keep me interested.

Hey Jammin Jenny, I have 2 4-star books and one that sounds good:

The Cuckoo's Calling (Cormoran Strike, #1) by Robert Galbraith ~ I liked this mystery, but it had mixed reviews so I listened to it. I'm glad that I did because it was convoluted and really slow at points, but I really enjoyed the characters, but the mystery was meh.

UnWholly (Unwind, #2) by Neal Shusterman ~ Slower than the first book, but the ending was good, a cliffhanger, but still really well done.

Getting Hot with the Scot (Sometimes in Love, #1) by Melonie Johnson ~ Because I am in the mood for a good romance.

Full disclosure: I added A Divided Spy (Thomas Kell, #3) by Charles Cumming series and The Rule of Many (The Rule of One, #2) by Ashley Saunders series, Watching You by Lisa Jewell and Dry by Neal Shusterman to my tbr, so you gave me more books than I gave you...Lol.

matilde: For Marla:

Wonder (Wonder, #1) by R.J. Palacio - This is such an empowering and impactful middle grade novel. I really hope that you will find it as enjoyable as I did.

The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan - this has been on my tbr for years, and for some reason I never pick it up (even tho I loved the PJ series)

Sleeping Giants (Themis Files, #1) by Sylvain Neuvel - have heared really great things about it.

Happy reading :))

Amazingly, all 3 books you picked for me are available at my local library, so even during these crazy times, I can get them all without buying them. You couldn't possibly know this, but thank you so much!!

Thanks for the 2 5 stars books for Wonder & The Sleeping Giants. Great books and great variety.

I am starting my 3rd July book, but I doubt I'll finish it by the end of the month.

Review: What a wonderful book. I am very impressed that this was the author's first book. This book follows August "Auggie" Pullman's 5th grade year of school. Auggie has a craniofacial anomaly from birth and he's had 27 surgeries in the 10 years since he's been born. Auggie has been homeschooled but now his parents think it is time for him to go to school.

Review: Excellent! I am currently on a science fiction kick and this was great. There was a very short section in the middle that was a bit slow, but the story had drama, romance, piqued my curiosity, lots of cool science and I enjoyed the strange format with the transcript of interviews and various reports. I didn't even mind the politics and intrigue, which are not usually my thing.

Alla, I'm so sorry, I checked for this on the 19th and it wasn't posted yet and I only just got back to it today.

Thanks Jan for picking for Alla for me!

Review: I like the legal-based story better than the business and economics in the first book. 4th graders hold a trial when one of their classmates accuses another of stealing.

#2 Nyxia (The Nyxia Triad, #1) by Scott Reintgen

Review: Really great story. This book has been compared to Red Rising but I actually liked it better. It isn't as dark or as slow. But then throw in Ender's Game and even some Divergent and you get the feel of this book. Emmett isn't as great as Ender, but he is loyal and street smart.

Raising Innocence (Rylee Adamson, #3) by Shannon Mayer ~ this looks good, I am moving the first book up on my tbr
Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore ~ I LOVED this first book, but wasn't a huge fan of the rest of the series
Witness in Death (In Death, #10) by J.D. Robb ~ I love this series, though I am only on book #7

Lauri: Marla, here are my picks for you:
Thunderhead - I just finished this one and it was so good!
Dead as a Doornail - Sookie is my favorite!
Odd Apocalypse - another favorite series! So weird & so good!

*Bonus*
The One and Only Ivan - this is an excellent and unexpected story...

You had so many good books on your list, it was hard for me to choose! My shortlist had 9 books on it! Happy reading!

Thunderhead (Nora Kelly, #0) by Douglas Preston Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5) by Charlaine Harris Odd Apocalypse (Odd Thomas, #5) by Dean Koontz The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

Review: This book touches on many happenings on previous books, so I wouldn't wait as long as me to read it. The author did a good enough job of explaining the previous incidents to jar my memory, so I could mostly keep up.
