Cyndee: For Marla:

Cyndee ~ thanks soooooo much for the picks! I was going to beg someone to pick for me to find you already did, thank you so much! And some good looking books that I'm looking forward to reading.

#1

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
Read: 9/3/19

Review: Excellent book with twists and turns, though trying to keep time travel straight gives me a bit of a headache. At times a bit creepy but I did enjoy listening to it.

When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn

Rating: ★★★.5
Review: Not my favorite in the series, but the book and series ending was sweet.
#2

No Exit by Taylor Adams
Read: 10/27/19

Hey ☘KathyD☘, hope you enjoy these books that my GoodReads friends liked:

They're all romance, but different settings and situations.
Twist: Marla, my picks for you are:
I gave 5 stars to all of these.

#1

Do You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare
Read: 11/3/19
Rating: ★★★
Review: Starts off with a breath-taking scene and Charlotte's insistence on solving the mystery was a different spin in this historical romance.
#2

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Read: 11/10/19
Rating: ★★★★★
Review: Wow, fantastic book...YA horror, science fiction romance. I like the format of emails, instant messages, video transcriptions, blogs, etc. The weird, choppy format and slow start take a bit to get over. But I suspended my life to finish the last 25% of the book. Definitely worth sticking with it.

Hey Sunshine✰✰✰ this is what I pick for you:

I hope you enjoy the audiobooks!
UnusualChild{beppy} :

For Lauri, I pick this variety for you. Happy Reading!

Deedee:Hi Marla! Here are my picks for you:

#1

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
Read: 5/15/20
Rating: ★★★★.5
Review: Great adventure story about a tunneling ship with a mixed race crew who are family as well as friends and co-workers. They take a lucrative contract to create a worm hole from a new area with unknown new inhabitants. Like lots of science fiction, it addresses some sensitive topics but between different alien species instead of different human races. This story had great examples of friendship, family ties, loyalty, personal growth, prejudice, bullies, scientific ethical issues, morality vs law, genocide, and different types of sexual encounters.

Finished one book for April:
Of Silk and Steam by Bec McMaster (5/7/20)
Rating: ★★★.5

Alissa, these are my 5 star picks for you.

Jaime: Marla, for you I picked:

The first 2 I really enjoyed myself and hope you do as well and I really like most Dean Koontz books so I hope you enjoy this one. :)

#1

Golden Son by Pierce Brown
Read: 6/18/20
Rating: ★★★★
Review: Darrow is a pawn in a larger chess game, okay maybe a bishop or castle, but still just a middle player who doesn't know the whole plan nor even who else is playing on his side. I despise politics so I expected not to like this story, but there was lots of action and intrigue to keep me interested.

Hey Jammin Jenny, I have 2 4-star books and one that sounds good:

Full disclosure: I added

matilde: For Marla:

Happy reading :))
Amazingly, all 3 books you picked for me are available at my local library, so even during these crazy times, I can get them all without buying them. You couldn't possibly know this, but thank you so much!!

Thanks for the 2 5 stars books for Wonder & The Sleeping Giants. Great books and great variety.
I am starting my 3rd July book, but I doubt I'll finish it by the end of the month.
#1

Wonder by R. J. Palacio
Read: 7/13/20
Rating: ★★★★★
Review: What a wonderful book. I am very impressed that this was the author's first book. This book follows August "Auggie" Pullman's 5th grade year of school. Auggie has a craniofacial anomaly from birth and he's had 27 surgeries in the 10 years since he's been born. Auggie has been homeschooled but now his parents think it is time for him to go to school.
#2

Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel
Read: 7/27/20
Rating: ★★★★★
Review: Excellent! I am currently on a science fiction kick and this was great. There was a very short section in the middle that was a bit slow, but the story had drama, romance, piqued my curiosity, lots of cool science and I enjoyed the strange format with the transcript of interviews and various reports. I didn't even mind the politics and intrigue, which are not usually my thing.

Finished a book from May:
Grave Secret by Charlaine Harris (7/10/20)
Rating: ★★★.5

Finished one book for June:
The Bad Place by Dean Koontz (7/8/20)
Rating: ★★★

Hey Rokkan here are the books that I pick for you:

Beth: For Marla

** Sorry this is so late!
Thanks, Beth, I'm looking forward to reading these books next month.

#1

Postmortem by Patricia Daniels Cornwell
Read: 8/25/20
Rating: ★★★★
Review: Great read. Gruesome but not as graphic as Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter or Heartsick by Chelsea Cain. That was fine by me, it wasn't as horrifically shocking, but it was an intense mystery with side story lines mixed in.

Hey Lauri, here are your Sept picks:

I was torn between Uglies and

Thanks for the picks, I too was surprised we were picking for each other. I hope you like my picks as much as I like mine.

Dead as a Doornail - Sookie is my favorite!
Blood Cross - I just finished this one! Love Jane and Beast

And because you need a paranormal break sometimes: In the Company of Cheerful Ladies

You have so many of "my" series on your list, I think we may be secret twins separated at birth! Message me if you'd ever like to do a buddy read!

I haven't read Beartown, but I'm a huge fan of other Backman's works

#1

Obsidio by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Read: 11/25/20
Rating: ★★★★★
Review: Excellent ending to a fantastic sci-fi trilogy! I liked the couples featured in each book and each book was exciting. Though I had to set the book down for half a day around the middle, when you read it, you'll know why.

Finally finished a book for September:
In the Company of Cheerful Ladies by Alexander MaCall Smith (11/24/20)
Rating: ★★★.5

Finished 2 books for October:
Visions of Heat by Nalini Singh (11/4/20)

Nayara: Hey, Marla!
Here are your picks! I had so much fun with this books.

#1

Caressed by Ice by Nalini Singh
Read: 12/14/20

Review: Great romance from a male Psy's POV. Judd is trying to find a place in the hierarchy of the SnowDancer Wolf Pack. Brenna survived being brutally attacked by Tk Psy Councillor Cardinal Enrique Santana, but still bears the scars. Someone is trying to kill changelings and Judd can help protect the SnowDancers, but the wolves don't trust any Psy.
#2

Review: Malcolm moves in next to a lovely, lonely woman who is hiding from her past. Malcolm is used to undercover operations, but on his last op he had to kill the mobster's son who had become a close friend. Malcolm got shot in the battle and retired from undercover ops with police force. Stacey: For Marla

I loved all of these! Happy reading.

#1

book:My Sister's Grave|22341263] by Robert Dugoni
Read: 1/31/21
Rating: ★★★★
Review: Great mystery and solid twists. I am worried that the next book won't be as great, but I will definitely read it to see. I'm always impressed when male authors do a great job with a female MC.

Finished last book for November:
Beartown by Fredrik Backman (1/16/21)

To Suzanne, I hope you enjoy these books next month:

#1

Night Broken by Patricia Briggs
Read: 2/23/21
Rating: ★★★★★
Review: Great story with mythical volcano god, Coyote and Adam Hauptman's ex-wife.

Finished a book from January:
Moon Over Soho by Ben Aaronovitch (2/21/21)
Rating: ★★★.5

Thanks for picking for me last month, Brittany, here's my picks for you:

and bonus book (after Bitter Falls squeezed it off your list of suggestions)

Pooja: Here are my picks for Marla:

I've picked you some light reading for March. I've read the first two and enjoyed them and hopefully the last is fun too. Hope you enjoy them!

#1

The Governess Game by Tessa Dare
Read: 3/27/21
Rating: ★★★.5
Review: Those two girls are a riot, especially Daisy with her daily funerals from horrible deaths. This isn't my favorite Tessa Dare story, but it's still enjoyable.

Finished last book from January:
The Cabinet of Curiosities by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child (3/14/21)
Rating: ★★★

Wow, Eldarwen,
lots of great books on your list. Showing great willpower, I only added one to my tbr.
Happy Reading, I tried to give you a diverse selection.

Eldarwen: Hahah, proud of you!! :-) Keep going with the Psy-Changeling, it only gets better with each book as the overall plot thickens.
Thanks for the picks - and for the warning about the Graceling series!
From Tina,
For Marla:

Happy reading!
Thanks for the great picks, Tina!
(Though I would love to know why you chose them. It's such an interestingly diverse set of books.)

#1

Under the Light by Laura Whitcomb
Read: 4/7/21
Rating: ★★★.5
Review: So many things I didn't like about this story, but in spite of that, I was captivated by the writing in this book and wanted to know how it would end. I think the topics are a bit intense for YA at times and I was irritated that the adults were disappointing and religion was mocked. But still I was interested and in a way I am concerned that teens would be intrigued by this story and overlook the disturbing aspects.

Finished another book from February:
The Silent Corner by Dean Koontz (4/11/21)
Rating: ★★★★

Can you please take me off the list for May (picked in April)? But I would like to resume in May for June.
Thank you!

Finished another book from April:
Stone Cold Touch by Jennifer L. Armentrout (5/17/21)
Rating: ★★★.5

Wow, Stephen it was tough to pick books from 2020 since I haven't read any of them. I hope I picked you some good ones.

Thanks Marla!
Pooja picked for me when SandyC didn't
Get a Life, Chloe Brown
The Last Hellion
Prodigy

#1

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert
Read: 6/16/21
Rating: ★★★.5
Review: Chloe Sophia Brown has decided that she needs to Get a Life and she's created a list to make it happen. Redford "Red" Morgan is the superintendent of the building and he makes Chloe his next redo project. Lots of miscommunication frustrated me and them, but besides lots of emotional baggage, they bring mutual attraction and lots of sass. There are several steamy sexy scenes that will put you off if you are adverse to that sort of thing.

Finished a book from March:
Dragon Spear by Jessica Day George (6/19/21)
Rating: ★★★★

For Sunshine✰✰✰, I pick these books:

Sunshine✰✰✰: Picks for Marla
It's officially summer now so I picked bright sunny covers. :-)

Thanks for my sunny picks! I hope you like your books.

#1

The Art of Raising a Puppy by the Monks of New Skete
Read: 7/18/21
Rating: ★★★★
Review: Great practical advice though probably a little too strict for most puppy owners. But most puppies aren't going to grow up to be a strong-willed 100 lb dog

Finally listened to this last book from February:
The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater (7/19/21)
Rating: ★★★.5

Finished a book from June:
The Last Hellion by Loretta Chase (7/2/21)
Rating: ★★★.5

My picks for Katrina:

A very diverse list of books, so I picked you 3 very different books. Hope at least one of them works for you.
Erin:
Picks for Marla:

Thanks for the awesome picks! I can use 2 of them for other challenges too. And I read Magic Study this month and I can't wait to read

#1

Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert
Read: 8/10/21
Rating: ★★★★
Review: I like romance books with snarky dialogue. This is not your normal fluffy romance book, Zafir has emotional wounds and anxiety issues, but is a hopeless romantic, while Danika has serious commitment issues. This the second book in the series, but it could be a standalone book.
#2

It's in His Kiss by Julia Quinn
Read: 8/20/21
Rating: ★★★★
Review: Hyacinth Bridgerton is too outspoken for modern days, she is terrifying for her time. This was a sassy story and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Finished last book from June:
Prodigy by Marie Lu (8/2/1)
Rating: ★★★.5

Hey Katrina I'm picking for you again, I hope you enjoy these books:

Twist stepped up when Kristina Simon let me down:
Marla

For series books, you can read the first one not read in the series.
Thanks, Twist!

#1

Raised in Fire (Fire and Ice Trilogy, #2) by K.F. Breene
Read: 9/20/21
Rating: ★★★
Review: Not as good as the first book. But still interesting.

Hey, Insiyah, here are my picks for you:

PrinzessBookDragon:
for Marla <3

Happy reading! 🍒📚🎉

#1

The Good Guy by Dean Koontz
Read: 10/28/21
Rating: ★★★
Review: 3.5 stars. Premise was 5 star, start was interesting but it was so slow most of the book. The dialogue was snappy, but unconventional. Unfortunately, only the concept was 5 star worthy IMHO.

Finished another book from September:
A Night to Surrender by Tessa Dare (10/18/21)
Rating: ★★★

My picks for Stephen:

Norabear: Marla,
I finally narrowed the list down to three books. It took me awhile as our tastes are so similar.
I don't typically pick books other than the first in the series but these are a couple of my favorite authors.
Enjoy!

Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce

Holiday in Death by J.D. Robb

Hostage to Pleasure by Nalini Singh
Thanks for the great picks, Norabear! I'm excited to read these.
Drat, didn't finish a November book by the end of the month.

Finished a book from October:
Mirror Image by Sandra Brown (11/16/21)
Rating: ★★★.5

Rokkan: Marla my picks for you are:

Hope you enjoy them

#1

The Lemonade Crime by Jacqueline Davies
Read: 1/10/22
Rating: ★★★★.5
Review: I like the legal-based story better than the business and economics in the first book. 4th graders hold a trial when one of their classmates accuses another of stealing.
#2

Nyxia by Scott Reintgen
Read: 1/26/22
Rating: ★★★★.5
Review: Really great story. This book has been compared to Red Rising but I actually liked it better. It isn't as dark or as slow. But then throw in Ender's Game and even some Divergent and you get the feel of this book. Emmett isn't as great as Ender, but he is loyal and street smart.

For Eldarwen, please enjoy:

Lauri: Marla, here are my picks for you:
Thunderhead - I just finished this one and it was so good!
Dead as a Doornail - Sookie is my favorite!
Odd Apocalypse - another favorite series! So weird & so good!
*Bonus*
The One and Only Ivan - this is an excellent and unexpected story...
You had so many good books on your list, it was hard for me to choose! My shortlist had 9 books on it! Happy reading!

#1

Dead as a Doornail by Charlaine Harris
Read: 2/28/22
Rating: ★★★★
Review: This book touches on many happenings on previous books, so I wouldn't wait as long as me to read it. The author did a good enough job of explaining the previous incidents to jar my memory, so I could mostly keep up.
