Vincent Cartelli | 3 comments A Song of Ice and Fire, “A Clash of Kings” is the second novel in George R.R. Martin’s series, and things really intensify in this book. The first book in the series was truly a set up for the big bang in the next book. The throne is up for grabs and everybody’s going for it. Stannis Baratheon, Renly Baratheon, Robb Stark, and the Lannisters are fighting to be the King of the Seven Kingdoms and protector of the realm. Battles and wars ensue and create conflicts that describe blood and gore, and victories and lose.
Robb Stark the new “King of the North” makes constant assaults on the Lannisters, winning every battle. Stannis also makes many big moves to sack Kings Landing, one notable move being the murder of another king and the taking of his army. Another claim occurs with the King of the Iron Islands coming into play and attempting to overtake the North. And Daneryas Targaryean and her recently hatched dragons are planning to take siege of the Seven Kingdoms. All different kings and queens face many conflicts and battles and at the end, the war continues to wager and death adds up by the thousands.
Once characters are known and sides can be easily acknowledge, there are no weaknesses to this book.
Strengths are numerous in this book as plot is extremely complex and interesting, setting is a major role in every move that is made and can lead to the death or life of many characters. With twist and turns at every corner, it is truly hard to tell what will happen and conflict simply amazing. Each battle creates nail-biting reading and creates a 3D sense of reading. This book creates massive amounts of inters in each character and deceit only spices up the plot. The setting is a very important factor in this book as is it can swing the moods of characters and affects how each commander takes each battle. It can completely change the plot of the book and Martin does a fantastic job incorporating the setting with outstanding descriptions and amazing imagery.
“A Clash of Kings” was even more action packed and interesting as the first one, and it is truly amazing to get to know the characters so well. I recommend this book, again, to anybody who is willing to read this long of a book. The conflict and action makes it very much so worth the long read, and makes reading a truly enjoyable experience with its exceptional imagery and passion.
