Go with the author on his journey to uncover and discover the story behind inherited objects, 200+ Japanese netsuke from his Viennese uncle. The novel is steeped in histories - family, art and world events, particularly European and Japanese around both world wars. Methodical and systematic, the story is well told but only occasional emotional, despite powerful subject matter. Recommended read for those who enjoy history. I read the book while traveling through Vienna and found the descriptions and context compelling.
