This is one of those books with no chapter headings. So I'll label the discussion topics beginning, middle and end. Please try to hold off on spoilery details until the end.

That being said, how are you liking this book so far? What do you think of the writing style? characters? pacing? Has it captured your attention?

Jenn (sterlingmccord) So far, I am enjoying this book. I find the writing style to be easy to follow; it has drawn me in (captured my attention) and I feel invested in these characters. I think the characters are well developed. I enjoy hearing Ada's voice, but hope to better understand David's motivations as the novel unfolds. I'm also enjoying Liston's character. As one of the primary adult influences in Ada's life, she seem to act as a bit of a counterbalance to David.

Berna | 64 comments I am 35% into the book. I am enjoying the book and I really feel for little Ada.
The writing style is quite easy to follow. The characters are well developed and well defined. There is a character development of Ada even in one of third of the book. It is of course because of what she has to go through but still she is a wonderful character. I was not a big fan of David especially in the beginning of the book but he is also very real character as he goes through his illness. Liston is my favorite character. If she was not present in Ada's life, I do not even want to think about what Ada would do.
The pacing is fine for me.
It looks like it would be a four star book, maybe even a five star.

Elsa I'm enjoying the book pretty well so far. Ada's upbringing is definitely unconventional. I'm finding the book more compelling as I pass the 100 page mark and the plot picks up.

I finally got going in this book! I like how even at the beginning I am feeling like things are a little fishy with Ada and David's relationship. I can't put my finger on it, but so many things are just odd. Like how he doesn't like having his picture taken or allow her to go to school. I can't wait to see how it all shakes out as the book continues.

I was a bit bored by the long description of what they're working on at the lab and the whole ELIXER computer thing. It just went on and on. Clearly it will play a role in the book further on, but it was a bit boring for me here at the beginning.

Patti (prenticekid) | 9 comments I enjoyed the beginning of the book. I liked the rather quirky nature of Ada and David's relationship. I do not think that every parent needs to be a soccer-parent or PTA-parent to be considered a proper parent. I was very intrigued to keep reading despite the lab portions of the book, which are not typically my sort of thing.
