This book is called Feed by M.T Anderson. The genre of this book is Science Fiction. This book caught my attention right away because after reading the back of the book I became interested in reading it and became my favorite book that I’ve read this year. The protagonist characters are Titus, Violet, Violet’s Dad, Link, and Marty. I think the true antagonist isn’t a real life character but rather is the feed, which is controlled by corporations. A character in the book that I think made the book really good to read was Violet. She’s a teenager and reminds me of myself because of how she sees the world differently than the rest of her friends. Titus and his friends ignore current events in their world to party while Violet doesn’t. A character that also stands out is Titus because throughout the book I saw that he was a special character since he notices more things than Link and Marty ever did because he’s smarter than them. The book is about a futuristic society that is failing. People in this society are taught to value money and entertainment more than anything else. Every character besides Violet’s dad has the feed installed in their heads but unlike the other kids who have the feeds installed at birth, Violet had it installed when she was seven years old which means hers is harder to fix when problems occur. The feed lets them communicate but also has advertisements like the tv or YouTube videos we watch. Titus, the main character decides to go on a trip to the moon. I think there was a weakness in the language that was used in the book. I know that the author purposely used words such as "meg", “null”, and “youch”. Meg means totally or very, null means boring, and youch means yikes or ouch. At first I didn’t like the use of these words in the book but then I realized that the book needed these words because a futuristic society would have an advance in technology which means our language would contain new words. I think a strength in the book was the conflict involved in each character. For instance, Violet had faced conflict with herself because she was fighting her personality with the feed and her personality without the feed. Violet was torn between her individual and acceptance from her peers. To be accepted in the world of the Feed this means that you have to keep up with the latest fashion trends. Despite Violet wanting to fit in she didn’t keep up with the fashion trends because she still wanted to wear what she wanted even if that made her go against the Feed. I personally loved reading this book and would recommend this book to any teenager because I think all of us can relate to this book in some way. Just like in the book each character had to face the influence of new technology and us as teenagers today have to face the same thing but through commercials on tv or social media instead of in our own minds.
