The Liar is the second Nora Roberts book I have read. This book was also recommended to me by my mom. The Lair follows the same themes Roberts is famous for; love, death, murder and mystery. This thriller novel pulls you in to try and figure out the truth. The story is told by Shelby, a once country girl now city, mom who had just lost their husband. But Shelby’s husband wasn’t a nobody, he had tons of money and secrets. Even after his death, he’s conflicts come back to haunt her.
Shelby had the perfect life. She has a beautiful daughter. She has all the money in the world and every designer bag. Her house is covered in art. She doesn’t have to work. And husband does it all, he swept her off her feet and he never looked back. But that all changes when he dies in a tragic accident on a vacation. His death brings up strange bills, doctor’s appointments and people. Shelby’s only solution is to escape it all and go back home. Shelby soon goes back to home with her daughter, to find safety and a new life. There she reconnects with her family and starts her own life without needed her husband. From a new job, new guy and letting her hair down, Shelby is finally living. But ghosts don’t stay in closet forever. Soon her husband's secrets start pouring out. People are dying and there are no answers. Who really was her husband? Will she ever be able to get away from him?
I wish there was more details on Shelby’s husband. Right when we stat the book he already died. We never get a real taste of him before his “death”. I would of liked to read about his strange actions and his other life. At the end I would also like more answers on why he did what he did and who were the people coming after Shelby.
This book is perfect for anyone who loves a good mystery and love affair. This book inspires people to start a new life, no matter what they have been through. Shelby learned to take her life, in her hands and make a difference for her daughter. She didn’t need her husband to find happiness, she found it on her own.
