Quirky and endearing, E.L. Konigsburg's The View from Saturday transports you to a world of tea parties and remembering what it was like to try to fit in in middle school. Whether you were new in town or the reigning top dog, you'll find yourself in this charming novel. When four middle schoolers find themselves connected in more than just their homeroom class, the challenges of being a pre-teen come to life and bring you back to the insecurities and new experiences of your own time in middle school. This novel will make you smile, tear up, and remind you of challenges everyone faces, no matter their age.
This book is great for the "outsider," the intellect, and the explorer. The style of switching perspectives and intertwining stories makes it complex, but just to the point of interest and not to the point of misunderstanding. This is a great book club book or recommendation for outside reading, as it is whimsical but not lacking depth. Overall, a favorite of mine so far, and a book my middle school self would have eaten up.
