Essentially, I Kill A Mockingbird follows the story of three lifelong best friends during the summer before they enter the scary world of high school. Their entire grade has been tasked with a lengthy summer reading list that, much to their joy, includes To Kill A Mockingbird. These three book lovers are disappointed when they realize that the rest of their classmates do not share their enthusiasm towards the reading of this classic. So, they develop an intricate plan to get the town (and maybe even the whole country) talking about the book in the hopes of getting everyone to read it.
This story is a sweet, fun read that lovers of reading will surely enjoy. I think Acampora's goal is to inspire middle school students to plot a plan in the vein of what his characters do. However, it is very much so told from the perspective of individuals who love school and reading. I personally do not really see how students who are not like the characters will relate and engage with the story. The intent of the story is a good one, but I think it falls a tad bit short in accomplishing its goal.
