Synopsis
Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

    Three Ways to Enjoy a Book!

At NRBC we use three styles of buddy reads. These will be indicated in the thread title as “Buddy Read”, “Relaxed Buddy Read” or “Informal Buddy Read”.

A “Buddy Read” has a discussion leader and a reading date is set to start the book. A reading schedule is posted prior to the start date and discussion questions are posted each day regarding that section of the book. More information about these types of reads is below. An example is here, showing a reading schedule here.

A “Relaxed Buddy Read” is similar to our usual “buddy reads” except there are less questions and break points. For example, a book may be split into three sections and those reading the book should pause at the end of the section to answer some discussion questions, make comments, or ask their own questions to other readers. An example is here.

An “Informal Buddy Read” doesn’t have a discussion leader and participants are asked to consider some generic questions when making comments about the book. An example is here.

A “Read and Watch Buddy Read” may be set up as any of the above, but we will also watch the movie or T.V. series - or even go to a play! - and make comparisons, discussing what has been left out or changed as well as the actors and actresses. There is a long debate of what one should do first: read the books or watch the movie? We usually read first, but it isn’t essential. Also, if you would like to join in, but don’t want to watch the movie, show, or play, but only read the books, that is fine, too. An example is here.

“Buddy Reads” (“BRs”) include:

• A reading schedule which can range from 50, 75, to 100 or so pages a day.

• Discussion questions posted daily by moderators and occasionally group members
   who help one of us out. If you want to be a Discussion Leader, let us know.

• If the book is really long, we'll plan a break day.

• Members do NOT have to answer every question, they are meant to stimulate
   conversations about the books AND allow us to glance back upon them when the
   sequels come out. This helps us to remember what exactly happened in the previous
   book.

• We find the buddy style of reading to be more fun than just posting one or two
   sentences about a book. We feel this is what distinguishes us as being a ‘book club’
   rather than just another GoodReads ‘group.’

• If you can NOT start the book on time, feel free to join in at a later date. They are
   set up to make it easy to do so.

• Moderators are people too, so occasionally we get sick, have to work late at our real
   jobs, or have something that keeps us from writing the questions. Please forgive us;
   we're only human and we don't get any compensation for what we do--not even
   free books!

• Discussions and questions are set up to make you think, analyze, and see things you,
   or even we, may have missed. Feel free to add your own thoughts at any time, if you
   think we've missed something.

• If you've read the book, feel free to let us know what you thought about the book.
   You can do so at the end of the buddy read, or, if you can't wait, add spoiler tags

Ch 1-2

So, I’m not sure that I like (view spoiler)[who I assume is the main romantic lead at this point. Too much calling a stranger “sweetheart” !! But it’s such a weird grievance to have. (hide spoiler)]

I have to check it out again. Got busy with other BR’s and challenges. Hope it’s still available via ebook.

Really? I feel like I can recall (view spoiler)[him calling her sweetheart three times. But I could be wrong. I'm listening to the audio though, so I felt like my reaction was stronger because I have better recall when I listen. Or maybe my brain made it up! Haha. That could really be a possibility.... I am also wondering about (view spoiler)[what happened to her. The way it was set up in chapter one it sounded like maybe a rape? Because of the feeling trapped? But then I feel like maybe she also tried to commit suicide after it or was cutting or something because of the way she needs to keep her bracelet over her wrist. And I wonder why people were so mean. Maybe it was a well-known person that she accused of rape, so people didn't believe her? Maybe somehow everyone found out about a suicide attempt, and that's why they all stared and whispered?? I'm not sure.

Or it could be something totally different that happened to her or that is scarred on her wrist. Who knows.

I do think maybe it was publicized though, because she freaked when she realized Cam knew her name. Like he could know it from somewhere (like a big news story). Guess we'll see! (hide spoiler)]

I'm into Chapter 5 (view spoiler)[ and Avery sees him with another girl and he calls that girl sweetheart. So that must be his "babe." The one I really hate and notice is "doll," and I'm so glad he doesn't use that one - at least so far!! (hide spoiler)]

Well, now I don't so much mind (view spoiler)[the sweetheart thing, since he actually likes her. So that's good news. (hide spoiler)]

It's driving me bonkers not knowing (view spoiler)[what happened on Halloween several years ago. I'm guessing that it sounds like this guy raped her, then paid off her parents to keep her quiet? But she didn't exactly stay quiet....so everyone hates her and thinks she's a liar? (based on "parents' deal," "buyer's remorse" comments) But I wish we just knew for sure. (hide spoiler)]

I meant to bring this up before, but forgot till it was brought up again in Ch. 12. I want to know what the heck (view spoiler)[is happening in Texas that is resulting in her cousin emailing her incessantly. When her cousin brought up another girl, I was thinking oh man, another person accusing Blaine of rape?? And now her mom said something happened on the phone, but I don't know. Why would her mom STILL be blaming her if someone else got raped? Then again, her mom should know something sketchy happened if his parents paid them off. Hmmmmmmm. (hide spoiler)]

I'm so curious with Avery (view spoiler)[, I agree it sounds like assault and maybe suicide attempt, I'm just feeling bad for her. And if that is the case, a very forward guy would make me nervous too (hide spoiler)].

It also just occurred to me....[spoilers through Ch. 12](view spoiler)[what if her mom is the one who is emailing and calling her? That'd be SUPER messed up, but it would explain how whoever is messaging her always gets her email and phone number, even when she kept changing them. (hide spoiler)]

Through Ch 27

So we finally know (view spoiler)[ Cam’s Secret! I was pretty sure it had something to do with his sister, but I was thinking more she’d been raped like Avery than that she was beaten. Horrific ether way :( (hide spoiler)]

Yes, it's sad, but also frustrating that Avery isn't willing to trust Cam and so put herself in this situation. It was nice that he helped when she got sick, but then he backed off again.

I liked this book a lot — which is good because right after it started I thought I was going to hate it. It lured me in though.

I can’t believe that (view spoiler)[Avery’s Mom was so awful! I knew from their interactions that she was, but actually getting a scene with her was icky. Bad lady.

My heart broke for Molly. It definitely wasn’t Avery’s fault, but I can see why she’s take out her anger on Avery. Just very sad. (hide spoiler)]

I'm going a little slower on this one because it's on audio, but I have a lot of yard work planned today, so hoping to get further today :)

I'm done too! This book was just okay for me. Although understandable, Avery's (view spoiler)[ inability or unwillingness to communicate with Cam was very annoying. As I think back on the book, it was just a lot of angst and drama on Avery's part. Again, understandable, but it got old. (hide spoiler)]

That's what I was also thinking (view spoiler)[and since Blaine is a country club kid, I'm thinking it's all politics. If Blaine raped someone else, then maybe her parents are still acting ridiculous because they don't want their names in the papers or associated with something "unseemly". That phone call with her mom just made me mad. But I was glad Cam showed up right after. (hide spoiler)]

This was my first from this author that didn't have a paranormal element to it. Overall it was a good read, but I did get frustrated sometimes. I really liked Cam, and Avery was beginning to make some positive steps. I am going to read the next book in the series.
