The pictures online don't do this disgusting thing any justice. The back legs on them are a good four inches long when straight. You CAN HEAR THEM HOP!!! Unlike crickets I'm familiar with they can hop in any direction including sidways and backwards.
I just had to kill one. My method is to fling the phonebook at it and pray I don't miss. If you miss there's no telling where it will hop next.
They absolutely freak me out. To the point I'm thinking about moving somewhere without them.
Nope they can't hurt or bite you but I don't care because they are big freaky mutants!
Have you got something worse where you are?

I don't know why they bother me so much but I think it's because they're big and I have no idea which direction they'll decide to hop. I forgot to mention they have toes like a frog too. Uck!!!!!!!! Because of the way the back legs bend they resemble spiders. They are the most disgusting things I've ever seen.
I just cleaned my bathroom today. I don't know how they get in but they do. Now my clean bathroom floor has squished cricket on it so I have to mop it again before I take a shower.
The worst was when I got up one night in the dark, went into the bathroom, turned on the light and one was hanging out on the wall by the toilet.

The first time I saw one I tried to hit it with a shoe in my hand. When the thing jumped directly to the left I freaked out. Next I tried spraying one with bathroom cleaner. It had no affect on it. For some reason throwing the phonebook at it from a distance doesn't seem to register with them. They just sit there until it takes them out.

Pester them enough and they'll scream like a boiling lobster.
I used to have a cat that loved to bring them in the house and drop them off at my feet.

I think I'd be able to step on one if I had shoes on.
Camel back crickets are too big for me to think about stepping on. I'd never be able to either because they are fast and can go in any direction.
Instead of getting use to them when I see one I just keep getting more freaked out. It's become a real phobia at this point.
