Marie -The Reading Otter (thereadingotter) I hope I can find myself a copy. Sounds interesting.

Rogier (rorocapri) | 4 comments Prospero and Alexander are insane . cutting in your daughters fingertips repeatedly. Jeez

They absolutely show no love to Celia and Marco .

Tia | 3 comments I love Bailey! Although, at first I was very confused it's the time lapses.

Rebecca Jane (bec3sjhdbzljldsgwsm) | 19 comments Yay, finally a book I've read!

I feel you xD This'll be the first time for me as well that a book I've read becomes the book of the month xD

Emma I've just finished part 1, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I'm enjoying it. It's so wonderful, the writing has a feeling of fluidity and magic throughout it. It's all beautiful. I'm interested to find out more about Marco, as we have followed Celia a bit more than him. I've got a feeling I'm going to adore this book!

message 13: by Chu (new) - rated it 4 stars

Chu (Pikachu) | 5 comments I also finished the first part now. I really enjoy the writing and the descriptions. But I must say that I'm not at a point where I really, really want to continue reading. I mean I enjoy it so far and I still don't know where the story is going but to this point I'm not totally into it. Hope the characters will take some action in the next parts ;)

Quinton (asagecalledq) | 17 comments Finished part 1 today and it definitely has me. Looking forward to seeing how exactly Marco is suppose to win this challenge.

yeah that was completely effed up

Rekha (rekharavikumar) Ok so far this book gets 5 stars'

I really like Celia.... And for some reason the best part of part 1 for me was when the clockmaker was done making the "dreamlike" clock and was describing it! I would do anything except give up my book collection to get that clock like AHHHHHH!

Quinton (asagecalledq) | 17 comments Yeah that clock sounded amazing.

The "clockmaking" part was definitely my favorite part as well!

Caity Eldridge | 3 comments My favorite part was when Marco showed Isobel the white, snowy forest

Moriah The end of Magic Lessons was really sad...
"... hidden in the shadows formed between disused pieces of scenery backstage, Celia Bowen curls herself into a ball and cries."
Poor thing!!

I'm now starting Le Bateleur.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

loving this book so far!! just got to part 2. the book is definitely worth the hype.

message 22: by I M A N I (new) - added it

I M A N I (imc__) | 4 comments So far my favorite character is Celia. I loved the part where she auditions using her magic. I can kinda see that she mostly transforms things/herself and heals. Marco, so far, can perform illusions. It will be interesting to see what they will do against each other.

Guille Osorio | 6 comments This is my first time in booksplosion and I'm loving it!

At the beginning (first 10 pages) I was like: I can't believe I voted for this book, but then it just got me. Celia's father is insane and Marco's too. Pour little things I love them and I don't wanna read their fight (actually I want but sisuwnaulqhstqlh)

Please tell me I wasn't the only one nervous when Bailey went to the circus (daytime) He's one of my favorite characters!

Mariana | 8 comments so far, I hate Celia's dad, and that guy in the gray suit... Marco and Celia recive no love and had a horrible childhood and and.. aggg What kind of sick people would cut her daughter fingers and broke her wrist?! even if it heals later! WTF??

message 25: by mac (new) - rated it 5 stars

mac ireland (cheeseblock) | 7 comments Is it just me that thinks the midnight dinners would look like the movie clue? Not following the plot of the movie or anything but the mansion and the dining area and the study? Loving it so far. Also kinda believed that Isobel was Celia when Marcus first met her. I just got a weird vibe about her.

mac ireland (cheeseblock) | 7 comments ***marco! on my last comment. stupid autocorrect.

message 27: by Rosa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rosa | 1 comments The beginning of this book is so evocative, the world building is amazing!!

Jenny (haphazardbooknook) I don't know how much I love the writing style or the story so far but I have high hopes that it will get better.

Caroline Keyes (carolinealexis) | 11 comments I am living this book so far! I'm intrigued by the writing style, and my favorite scenes are when Celia does her audition (and any other time she does magic) and when the clock was described. I love Marco and Celia, and I cannot wait to find out more (especially when they get the chance to interact more)

Monique :) I've never read a book that's written in this kind of style before, it's really interesting! I hate how Celia and Marco are treated - when Hector cut Celia's finger tips open I was like ARE YOU SERIOUS I HATE YOU GET AWAY! No seriously he and the man in the gray suit are irritating in the sense that they think they can treat Celia and Marco with no respect and that it's ok - IT AINT OK!!

Kelly | 3 comments finished the first part and was completely enchanted. Celia is so full of tenacity and really lights the fire under Marco and I love it. Although the challenge is really disgusting if thought over in detail and the main reason for why I find it so disturbing is because it has obviously been done before more than once. This is a new favorite of mine and I'm not even halfway through it!

Amanda (amandakthompson) I'm not far enough in to talk about my favorite characters, but what about the wording? This book is always literary candy to me. I love the story and the characters, but my favorite part about this book are the snippets like 'Anticipation' where they guide us through the circus. I have never wanted to visit a fictional place more than when this circus is being described piece by piece.

Anyone else want to run off and join the Night Circus?

message 33: by Mia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mia (souffezgirl) I do think it's quite beautifully written so far, though I don't think it's really gotten me to a point yet where I have that feeling of 'Oh my gosh, I must know what happens next'. The situation of Celia and Marco is awful, especially the scene others have mentioned before with the cutting of her fingers (and goodness, the thing with the bird), but I haven't really connected with any of the characters yet. Still, I have high hopes that it will pick up :)

I feel the same way! I'm trying so hard to get into this story. I'm going to keep going too, because this has been on my shelf forever!

Kassie (sassyykassie) | 13 comments I'm really curious about the Isabel-Marco vs Marco-imCelia relationships and how they'll play out. I'm also itching to see what the heck these games are because so far I haven't noticed anything

My one complaint is that the timeline is pretty hard to follow, I feel likes it's jumping around a lot

message 36: by BookNerdTori (new)

BookNerdTori I finished part one before I fell asleep, and before I stopped reading because I was getting super confused as to what was going on. This book is interesting but super confusing with the timeline.

I think so far my favorite characters have to be Marco and Bailey. I feel for Celia, but I wouldn't call her one of my favorites. I guess cause I can't tell much of her personality.

Also was I the only one that thought Isabel and Celia were the same person? I thought for the longest they were, until Celia auditioned.

Christina (readbychristina) I love the writing, content, plot and characters, but I'm not yet really into it. I'm curious how the story will develop!

anyone else think of jace and valentine during the dove scene?

YES! That was exactly what I thought as well. I actually think that made me dislike her father even more.

Amanda (amandakthompson) Shelley wrote: "... the timeline is pretty hard to follow, I feel likes it's jumping around a lot."

I found this a little tricky to wrap my brain around, but it gets easier to follow as you go. By the end, I seriously loved the timeline style.

Jacquie Marques (jacquie_fortin) Mac wrote: "Is it just me that thinks the midnight dinners would look like the movie clue? Not following the plot of the movie or anything but the mansion and the dining area and the study? Loving it so far. A..."

I thought that too! I was sure it was going to be Celia using a fake name but apparently not.

Jacquie Marques (jacquie_fortin) I'm loving this so far!
I like the way the book is split up into these different timelines and I'm very interested to see how they all connect in the end. The build up we're getting in the second-person narrative bits as we're walking through the circus is awesome. I really feel like I'm in the story when I'm reading those parts. I'm thinking maybe those sections will lead up to us seeing Celia and Marco dueling or something?

Prospero is a total ahole. He reminds me of Coralie's dad in The Museum of Extraordinary Things by Alice Hoffman (just finished it the other week). They have the same callous cruelty. Celia is just a toy to Prospero and it's awful. The man in the grey suit is not much better.

Marco's reaction to seeing Celia for the first time is hilarious, but I also felt so scared for him. I can't help but be on both of their sides. So excited to see where this all goes, and to see what Bailey has to do with all of this.

Brin | 2 comments I just got it a few days ago!!!! SO EXCITED TO STARTIT! I read the first 17 pages! Yeah! Anyways, it's mysterious so far.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished part 1 and am so intrigued! I absolutely love the snippets from the experience of entering the Night Circus and wish it was real because it sounds amazing and so fascinating. Loving Celia and Marco as characters and can't wait to find out how their challenge and relationship will build, especially with the inclusion of Isabel in the mix too. I love Bailey and can't wait to find out how his perspective might fit in as well. Beautifully written, can't wait to read more! :)

Christina (adventuresinpolishland) | 17 comments Wow! I'm loving this book so far! First of all, it is crafted to beautifully. I'm amazed at how the author was able to create such a mysterious and dreamlike story. Every single detail matters – the dates, the rotating cast of characters, the chapter titles. It's impressive! It gives me as a reader the feeling like I'm wandering through the book as one would wander through the circus. Oh, and those second-person circus moments are so cool!

I'm not sure I could pick a favorite character at this point. I'm so excited to find out more about this game, and how the circus will play into that. I also like the character of Bailey, and I'm hoping he's about to run away and join the circus.

Monique :) Just finished part one - the storyline is great and the story is really growing on me, can't wait to get reading part two :))

Bridget | 7 comments The writing style is so beautiful and the descriptions are filled with magic. I am not fully immersed into the book yet like I hoped to be.

The timeline is confusing. It is jumping all over the place.

I love Celia. From what she has been through, she seems like a strong woman.

Letticia (lettydiaz9) | 2 comments I finished part one last night, and I really am loving the book. I got confused for a second when I noticed it was not in chronological order all of the time, but now that I'm paying closer attention I don't have a problem with it.

I really love Celia, really hate her father! I also thought Celia and Isobel were the same person. I'm interested to see this love-triangle play out.

In general, I'm finding the book really easy to read! I generally read very slow, and even though I slacked on my reading really hard yesterday I read a lot more than I thought I did.

Really excited for part two! The opening night bits were really awesome!

Sarah | 5 comments I thought the characters we met were great. I like the story so far, but I feel like the first part kind of leaves you in the dark at first at what is even going on. At some times, that annoys me because I just like to know the full situation, but at the same time I really like that air of mystery. I was so excited when the idea of the circus finally came up, because it wasn't very much mentioned until pretty close to the part ending. The first 100 pages were a little hard to get through at first, but I liked it. I'm really excited to actually figure out what this mysterious challenge is, and I'm excited to see how Marco's and Celia's relationship will play out, especially with Isobel in the picture as well. Like Letticia, I thought Claire and Isobel were the same person at first, but now I know that they're not and now I know Isobel wants to join the circus, the love triangle going on there I feel like will be very interesting to read. Also, the clock was so beautifully described, the imagery in this book is amazing. I can't wait to get farther into this book and get more into the character's lives.
