Ariel (arielbissett) How do you feel about the multiple time lines? And which of the circus acts that you've seen so far has been your favourite?

message 2: by Colleen (new)

Colleen Tinch (colleentinch) I really wanna take notes this time I read it and see if there is a pattern to the time jumps

message 3: by Tia (new)

Tia | 3 comments I love the cloud maze!!!! I want to visit this circus so bad! I guess it will only be in my dreams... For now.

message 4: by Rekha (new)

Rekha (rekharavikumar) Wow! Opening night was wow! And Celia's Audition! And I love love LOVE the Murray twins and I am also strangely loving the time leaps!

Finally!!!
Celia meets the "opponent"

And also the cloud maze! And baileys experience in Celia's tent!

There's too much that's AMAZING about this book

message 5: by Bookworm (new)

Bookworm | 31 comments This book is so beautiful and wonderful and magical and dreamy! I'm absolutely in love with the circus and the characters! I don't think I could choose a favorite character, I just love them all. The plot is amazing as well. So far, this is a 5 star worthy book for me, and I'm sure the rest of the book will be just as outstanding.

message 6: by Emma (new)

Emma The lighting of the cauldron with the arrows, the ice-garden, and the cloud maze are my 3 favourite parts! This book is beautiful and incredible!

whoufflestories (bookpond) | 9 comments I love the change in time lines. And I love Celia's tent and the Cloud Maze! The Circus is really really cool!

I feel so sad about Tara though. It's kind of surprising, I like almost every single character that's introduced. Except for Celia's dad and A. H.

message 8: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 3 comments I actually don't mind the multiple time lines that much it actually is a good way to tell the story. my favorite tent is probably the labyrinth or the ice garden-theyre both so magical! Celia and Marco make my heart melt! they are so adorbs

message 9: by Mariana (new)

Mariana | 8 comments I'm already in love with Marco❤ and the twins... and Celia, and surprisingly, Isobel, wich is rare, I expeted her to be a bitch.

message 10: by Kassie (new)

Kassie (sassyykassie) | 13 comments I'm in love with the writing in this book! It's like reading a dance... Which doesn't make a lot of sense. The scene of Tara's funeral was so beautiful, there's just no other weds to explain it

message 11: by Caroline (new)

Caroline Keyes (carolinealexis) | 11 comments I love love love everything about this book. The circus is described so vividly that I can imagine everything just as clearly as if I saw it in front of me. And Celia and Marco met, and *swoon* I need more

message 12: by Mia (new)

Mia (souffezgirl) As in the previous part, the writing is just beautiful and the way the different tents are described are just perfect. You can close your eyes and imagine the whole thing. That being said, while I adore the setting, I'm still not really feeling all that interested in the characters themselves, though the last chapter in this part did help and I thought the twins and Bailey were cute. Not a big fan of the jumping time thing either, but that seems to have settled down just a bit in this part. Overall, beautiful writing, beautiful setting, but still not feeling that emotionally invested in the plot itself or the characters (though that last chapter was promising).

Guille Osorio | 6 comments The time lines are strange, but not annoying.

I love Bailey and the Murray twins. I am so curious about what will happen with Bailey.

There's something about Celia I can't understand. She was raised by a sociopath who cut the tips of her fingers to make her "stronger" and she grew up without any trauma? It is hard to believe.

Just when I was thinking that I was part of the team Marco, Celia had this nice conversation with him. Even when they have to fight, they are the only ones who can understand each other!

P.S.: I'm a big fan of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and True Blood so I knew exactly what would happen with Tara.

message 14: by Kassie (new)

Kassie (sassyykassie) | 13 comments Finally! The energy between Celia and Marco is mesmerizing and I love that both poppet and widget like Bailey. I'm so curious about their part of the story

message 15: by I M A N I (new)

I M A N I (imc__) | 4 comments At first, the time lines were confusing and difficult to keep up with. I don't really look at it anymore. I just start reading. I think the Cloud Maze is the coolest thing right now. I can't imagine in my mind what most of the things in this book look like though. The kittens doing somersaults was pretty amusing.

message 16: by Quinton (new)

Quinton (asagecalledq) | 17 comments I really wish this circus existed lol. I would like to see Celia's act and really just walk around.

I know right!

message 18: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (haphazardbooknook) I didn't really like this book up until I started the second part. Now I like it a lot. I find the multiple timelines easier to keep up with and I love the descriptions, mainly the ice garden. I am excited to watch the relationship between Celia and Marco grow as well as the friendship of Widget, Poppet and Bailey. I look forward to the next part of the book and hope it is as good as the second part was.

Cristina Drafta (mistakesqueen) | 3 comments If I ever get a wish from a genie I would for sure wish for Le Cirque des Reves to be real. This is just so magical I want to be a part of.I don't think that I've had this feeling of not wanting the world of the book to end for a really long time.
Also that kiss was so close to happen I could almost feel it.

message 21: by Natelle (new)

Natelle Woodworth (tall_telle_tells_tales) | 10 comments wow. I don't even know where to start. I love where this book is going! so magical and so beautifully written. I love poppet and widget! they still remain a mystery but I like it and I can't wait to find out how Bailey fits into all of this. Finally Celia and Marco interact! I love how they reveal tiny secrets about their parts in the circus and tiny secrets about their abilities. The writing makes you wish the circus were a real place! I would definitely attend! It's hard to pick one tent I like the most but the cloud maze sounds absolutely mesmerizing! I'm loving this book!!!

message 22: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin Ford (caitfromspace) This book is getting really good for me. I wish the story revolved completely around Poppet, Widget, and Bailey because I love those 3 so much! However, Celia & Marco coming together was still perfect. I feel bad for Isobel because she seems to be a lovely person, but the energy between Marco & Celia is so strong. I'm excited to continue on with this book!

message 23: by Amanda (last edited Aug 17, 2014 07:54AM) (new)

Amanda (amandakthompson) I'm not going to lie. My favorite attraction is the carousel. I love a good carousel ride, and if the creatures are alive, well... ^_^

I love the separate timelines. I have to skim back a few times to remember what year everything is happening in, but it makes for such a enthralling story.
This is my second read of this book, and as much as I loved it the first time, I'm enjoying it more now, because I can see how everything is connected between the two times. So for everyone reading it for the first time, don't pass up rereading it in a year or two!

Widget is my favorite character, so far. Well, it's a toss up between him and Bailey, but Widget is the storyteller.

Jacquie Marques (jacquie_fortin) Misssassykassie wrote: "I'm in love with the writing in this book! It's like reading a dance... Which doesn't make a lot of sense. The scene of Tara's funeral was so beautiful, there's just no other weds to explain it"

Actually, "reading a dance" seems like the perfect way to describe it somehow. I'm extremely curious to see how the whole "act" (because the story itself is as mysterious in a way as one of Celia's or Marco's tricks) all fits together in the end.

message 25: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie Marques (jacquie_fortin) I actually really like the multiple time lines. I've been reading a few books like that lately, where you're introduced to a bunch of characters but you don't see how they all connect until you get a ways into the book. For those books, getting to that "aha" moment where you put all the pieces together and figure out the connection was awesome, so I'm content to just let this story unfold and wait for that moment.
Besides, questioning how it works seems as silly as questioning one of Celia or Marco's tricks. I prefer to just accept it and enjoy the mystery as it slowly unravels.

Things are getting a bit sinister though. Maybe? I thought Poppet might have been referring to Tara or Lanie when she said the whole thing about not wanting "the nice lady to die" when she said "I don't know, they look the same" but oof. It was rough all the same. I wish A.H and Prospero would leave everything alone.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

I got distracted by another book so it took me awhile to get around to reading Part II but I really enjoyed it! Opening night was fantastic and there are so many great acts and intriguing little bits and pieces that are a part of the Night Circus. I think my favourite would probably be the cloud tent if I went, it sounded so cool when Poppet and Widge showed Bailey! I can't wait to read more about Poppet and Bailey as well as Celia and Marco, although I feel a bit bad for Isobel as I really like her character too. I'm also wondering how the clockmaker Friedrick will fit into the story line more, as I really enoyed reading about him. I love Celia, but still not sure how to take Marco yet. I hope all my questions gain answers soon, everything is just so intriguing and mysterious! I love it! :)

message 27: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra (pelcachay) HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP! This freaking book just keeps getting better and better. The multiple timelines really don't bother me much, considering by the end of this part they are quite close to each other, so yeah. My favourite circus act has to be The Cloud Maze (if that counts, which it totally should) because it is just so amazingly creative and odd. Also, I've started to enjoy Baileys character a lot more and ship Poppet and him super hard @_@

message 28: by Leah (new)

Leah (leahrosereads) I absolutely love the time jumps and changes. It works really well for this novel. Honestly, I don't have a favorite performance, in my mind they're all so amazing, that I can't choose.

The Opening Night sounded spectacular though, so overall, that would probably be my favorite scene of this novel so far.

message 29: by Bridget (new)

Bridget | 7 comments Opening night was so magical and wonderful. The cloud maze sounds so cool and I want the Murray twins gone my friends. This book is so magical, but I have a hard time getting into it. I don't know why because I love it so far...

Delila Reviews Things And Stuff (dq369) So the shifting times never really bothered me, I just always make sure to read the chapter heading so that I know where or when I am.

I forgot to mention this for part one, but I am really thinking that I would LOVE to see this story played out as a stage play. Anyone else getting that vibe? I know that book to movie adaptations are so common these days, but I feel a film would somehow cheapen the experience. I think this would be a lovely play. And the way the magic could be incorporated into the staging? AH! *starry eyes*

Anyway, I am really happy to see where this story has been going so far. I must admit that not every part is terribly interesting, but each part is equally enjoyable. I am sticking to my favorites being Celia and Bailey, though Isobel has actually grown on me too. (And I like Marco.) OH and I LOVE Tsukiko too. She is just too cool for school.

message 31: by Conrad (new)

Conrad (Rad1ne) | 5 comments I'm still in the early part of part 2.
But I don't particularly like how Marco is treating Isobel. It went from something sweet and romantic to a relationship where Marco just uses her and doesn't care for her besides what he can get out of her.

message 32: by Monique (new)

Monique :) Part two is even better than the first and it's so good. It's beautiful and enchanting and I can picture everything so clearly as I read. I'm enjoying this book a lot and I truly love the interesting and wonderful way it is written.

message 33: by Gabriella (new)

Gabriella The time jumps make the story a little confusing at times. I love Bailey. He is my favorite character and I can't wait to see how involved he gets with the circus. Every time I read about him I think of Barnum & Bailey's circus..... I'm left a little confused as to Isobel's spying.

message 34: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 4 comments I think the time jumps would be less confusing if the date size was a bit bigger. I think holding the opening date year in your mind as you read helps a lot (1886). The you can just categorize things as before and after opening night and how far. It's kind of like the B.C./A.C. dividing line. It makes things a little less precise while reading, but easier to understand on the whole (in my opinion).

As I continue my re-read, I'm more able to articulate why I liked this book so much the first time around. The magical setting and descriptions is obvious, but what draws me so much to it is it's celebration of this place. Well, more or less it's a place. It moves around, but still. I identify most with Friedrick Thiessen and his rêveurs. I too am particularly fond of visiting and discussing a particular place with others. For me, it's the Disney parks. So, I can completely understand this following that has propped up around the circus. The rêveurs want to experience the feelings they had when first visiting the Night Circus by visiting again and again, and they do the next best thing when they cannot attend by discussing the circus among themselves.

message 35: by Nichole Elizabeth (last edited Aug 21, 2014 10:25PM) (new)

Nichole Elizabeth (forsakenfates) I'm getting more used to the time jumps now and they are not as confusing. I'm really enjoying Bailey's story so far. And I definitely think something is up with Chandresh....

message 36: by Conrad (new)

Conrad (Rad1ne) | 5 comments I'm curious to know what's at stake with the wager/competition. One of those mysteries that's been left up in the air.
I felt like Tara's death was just a way for the author to not deal directly with the questions she was asking. So I didn't like that. But at least her questions haven't been abandoned.

message 37: by Dalia (new)

Dalia Pimentel (librarytears) I actually really love the multiple time lines. I just enjoy the Aha moments that come out of it.

So far my favorite things in the circus are the cauldron and the Wishing Tree. I think they are both just super cool. And like everyone else, I can also say that I really desperately wish that this circus was real. I would die in content if I spent even one night there.

The Celia and Marco moments at the end of this part had made smiling like a fool. They are just so cute together. I'm just glad they are not bitter towards each other because they are opponents and that their feelings on the competition are mutual.

message 38: by Mari-Ann (new)

Mari-Ann I'm really enjoying this book. I love the characters! And the circus itself of course. It just sounds so amazing. And I really like to also read the story from Bailey's point of view, his experience with the circus. And I was really looking forward to that moment when Marco and Celia finally see each other as their opponents. Really excited to know where this whole thing is heading!

message 39: by sally ✿ (new)

sally ✿ (sallyzhang) I'm enjoying this way more than I thought I would. I thought it'd be a bit boring and I was sure how I'd like the multiple timelines but I'm actually really enjoying them.

Celia and Marco are so adorable! I wish they'd just get together already!

I have so many questions though. I've actually started writing them down its a huge list. I wonder why Marco is stopping (well slowing down) the people aging?

Such a beautiful beautiful story so far.

message 40: by Hollie (new)

Hollie (Hollieblog) (-hollieblog) | 3 comments That last part, my god so much anticipation!

I love how the circus has a not-so-little fanclub, considering everything in entertainment has a fanclub nowadays!

message 41: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 5 comments At first I thought the timeline was kind of confusing, but as I read the book more I started to really like it and I'm really excited to see more how everything all intertwines. I think the cloud maze was so cool and the carousel, I would love the animals sort of coming to life as you're riding it! I just can't wait to get more into this.

message 42: by Mari Reads (new)

Mari Reads (mariginny) the whole idea of this circus even existing is just marvelous. i'm growing quite fond o the characters and i'm glad that celia actually knows who her "opponent" is now. we'll just have to read what happens next! haha

message 43: by Lucila (new)

Lucila (lucy1611) | 3 comments Everything just keeps getting better!! I loved exploring the circus and how finally we understand how everyone's stories fit in with one another. Can't wait to read some more!!

message 44: by Letticia (new)

Letticia (lettydiaz9) | 2 comments I don't really mind the timelines anymore. In the first part it confused me a bit, now I just make sure to look at the date when I start a new chapter, and I'm fine.

It really took me forever to finish part two! I finished at least two books that I started after this book just while I was trying to get through part 2! I have no idea why. I really like reading this book, I love the descriptions of the circus and seeing where the characters are going. For some reason, whenever I put the book down, I'm not drawn to pick it up again. I also find myself putting it down more frequently to do other things, but I love it while I am reading it. I don't know what the issue is. Is anyone else having a problem sticking with the book even though they love it?

I really loved Bailey's interactions with Poppet and Widget, and I can't wait to read more Celia and Marco. I'm not really sad for Isobel. I knew they weren't going to last so I didn't get invested in their relationship. I do think Marco should be a little less crazy with her though.

Hopefully I get through the rest of the book faster than I got through part 2.

message 45: by Rogier (new)

Rogier (rorocapri) | 4 comments I love it as well and I have the same problem sticking . I can only read 40 pigs at a time haha

message 46: by Moriah (new)

Moriah About to finish this part. Very cool.
I love Celia, she is very sweet. And Marco as well. I can't wait for them to talk to each other.
The conversation between Celia and Isobel was really cute.

message 47: by Fien (new)

Fien (touchedbythepage) | 11 comments I have mixed feelings with this part. Although I enjoyed reading it, i always had to force myself to pick up the book to continue. It's a weird feeling. I wonder why they're not aging and i wish the game was more explained.

My favourite part of the circus must be the maze and the ice tent. I'm definitely shipping Bailey and Poppet and Marco and Celia. I really like all the characters. I haven't been dissapointed with the story yet but I wish it could entice me more so I wouldn't have to force myself to continue reading it but other than that, I can't wait to read the next part and see where this goes.
