Ariel (arielbissett) Now that we're understanding the competition, do you have any predictions as to who will win? Do you have a favourite? And what about the romance,.. any opinions?

Did you already finish it?!

message 3: by Bookworm (new)

Bookworm | 31 comments Noooo! Why did Friedrick Thiessen have to die? :( He was such a nice man!
As for the contest, I still have some unanswered questions. Like how do they determine a winner? And what happens to the loser?
Anyhow, I think I want Celia to win.

message 4: by Emily (new)

Emily (emilygtree) | 2 comments Celia seems more powerful.

Exactly what I think. He just died...like that. I hope nobody wins the competition because Celia and Marco are not the ones who want to compete. Do they even try to win?

Poor Isobel. What do you guys think about her?

message 6: by Mariana (new)

Mariana | 8 comments I think, that the looser of the competition dies, that's why the guy in the gray suit was sad when Marco said that he loved Celia... Oh! and the part when Frederick die at first was like; wait, what just happen? and then; WTF?! NOOOO!! you dammed Chandresh!!

message 7: by Caroline (new)

Caroline Keyes (carolinealexis) | 11 comments So sad about Herr Thiessen ... Just a few minutes after reading that I found out about Robin Williams. Two great people dead, it's very tragic. Buuuuut I still love the circus, and I'm so glad that Bailey decided to go with the twins. I'm apprehensive about who will win the competition because I don't want Celia or Marco to die!

whoufflestories (bookpond) | 9 comments Hmmm. I think Celia and Marco are going to die. That would suck, though. I hope I'm wrong.
Stupid Chandresh! I hope he's held responsible for what he did.

Guille Osorio | 6 comments Forget all about Romeo & Juliet, Buffy & Angel, Bill & Sookie, Usagi & Tuxedo Mask, Edward & Bella, Katniss & Peeta and Willow & Tara. This is the best/saddest love story ever!

Bailey decided to go with the twins, but didn't make it, right? I understood that when he got there the circus was gone. Please, tell me I'm wrong and I'll be the happiest guy ever!

Caroline Keyes (carolinealexis) | 11 comments You'll have to continue reading to find out :)

message 12: by Emma (new)

Emma I adore Celia and Marco so much, but I have a really bad feeling about the whole competition thing. Like others have said, I get the feeling either one or both will die in the end (although I hope not!)

I love Poppet and Widget too, and Bailey! I hope he finds the circus soon (I also thought it had left by the time he arrived...?)

message 13: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (haphazardbooknook) I feel like I can not read this book fast enough to get to the end and find out what happens. I hope that both Celia and Marco either both die or both live... Maybe Alexander and Hector will both die and then Celia and Marco can live happily together. Either way I am excited to see what happens.

message 14: by Julia (new)

Julia (novelnoise) | 2 comments I am so incredibly heartbroken that Herr Thiessen died!! It happened so fast I almost missed it! I wonder if it will have a purpose other than showing how the circus is harming people, like with Tara?

Also...is anyone else having trouble keeping track of the time order of the book?

message 15: by Natelle (new)

Natelle Woodworth (tall_telle_tells_tales) | 10 comments so sad about Herr Thiessen :( I have no other words.

message 16: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin Ford (caitfromspace) I think they're gonna turn into statues and control the circus by being close to one another. Just a thought, based on that tiny excerpt from earlier in the book.

This, so much of this!

I kind of just blew through the book at this point, but I thought when I had gotten to part 3 that Celia would win the challenge, but I didn't think Marco was the weaker one. I just thought that what she was doing was more spectacular, and more visually amazing.

message 18: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2 comments I feel like this is a book that is meant to be read slowley.. I'm really enjoying it and also think that either Marco or Celia will have to die.. I love the twins and bailey's subplot and all the imagery! I find it funny that the circus has no animals though lol

message 19: by Gabriella (new)

Gabriella This book is so interesting! Marco and Celia have a very complicated relationship. It kind of felt too instant for me just because the times skips and we don't get to see how there relationship builds.

At this point, I still feel like I haven't been told everything. I'm still slightly confused with the competition. What's the goal of the winner? Is there a point?

message 20: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra (pelcachay) I'm happy we got to learn more about the competition, but I need to know more! What does the winner receive for crying out loud?! I am also in love with the relationship between Celia and Marco, but I still love the relationship between Bailey and Poppet even more. I ship Boppet so hard! Personally, I don't have a clue who could win. To me, Celia is more powerful but Marco is more clever, so I dunno. And I'm not really gonna pick a side because I have no clue what will happen to either of them if one loses and I love them both so much!

message 21: by Dalia (new)

Dalia Pimentel (librarytears) I think either of them could win the competition because they both have their separate advantages and weaknesses. I think it'll all end tragically anyways. Alexander mentioned to Hector that if Celia ends up winning, then she will end up hating her father. Doesn't sound to good :/ It really makes it seem like the loser will die or something awful like that.

And I was so heartbroken at the part where Bailey leaves his family to go with Poppet and the circus is gone when he gets there. Whah!! Now what's going to happen??

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I really was confused with this book. The time jumps, the romance being so sudden and the competition...I just didn't get it. I also don't like how it was written in third person, present tense. I just couldn't get into this book.

message 23: by sally ✿ (new)

sally ✿ (sallyzhang) I am so nervous! I'm assuming either Marco or Celia has to die for a winner to be chosen. Because in the beginning Alexander says something like 'Are you willing to sacrifice your own daughter?' to Hector. And he was also sad when he told Marco that the competition would be hard for him if he's in love with Celia. So if he wins, he loses her. If he loses, he still loses her.

I honestly don't think Alexander is a bad guy, he took Marco from an orphanage and sorta saved him? He might not be the best person but he's okay. However I really can't stand Hector, he's such a bad father to Celia!

Oh and Fredrick... Poor Fredrick. Also Isobel! I actually like her and I feel so bad that Marco doesn't love her back. She did so much for him... and he just, doesn't feel the same way.

Nichole Elizabeth (forsakenfates) This book just keeps getting better and better. Love Celia and Marco together.

And I feel so bad for Bailey, he is definitely my favorite character and now he is alone.

message 25: by Bridget (new)

Bridget | 7 comments I hope the loser of a competition doesn't die because Marco and Celia need to be together! But if I had to pick, I would want Celia to win.

message 26: by ★Ashli★ (new)

★Ashli★ (muchfaith22) Definitely wasn't expecting this all to happen, the last couple chapters of this part. Ahh! The time jumps does mess with me a little, I keep having t flip back to the last chapter to a we how much time had passed.

message 27: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 5 comments I think now that it seems like Celia will lose, something crazy will happen and she'll win! I can't even pick a favorite because I love Celia and Marco together so much and I wish they could get out of this competition. I positively freaked out when Friedrick died, I loved him and I thought his clocks were absolutely beautiful. I felt bad for Isobel, but at the same time I was excited for Celia and Marco's relationship to evolve.
