August is here, which means it’s my favorite month of the year—Romance Awareness Month! Yay!

For this month’s Retro Read, we decided to choose one of our featured Romance Awareness Month titles: Wait for Me by Mary Kay McComas. Two strangers from opposite walks of life find love during an earthquake. Can their love overcome their differences? Those of you looking for a little danger with your romance will love this read.

Wait for Me by Mary Kay McComas

I love the build up to the romance, and even the first kiss, in Wait for Me. McComas really made me feel Holly and Oliver’s connection. What do you think of how their romance develops?

Oliver and Holly also come from very different backgrounds. Do you think issues of money and family are enough to end a relationship or that love can overcome anything?

I can't wait to continue the discussion and hear what you all think!

NomdePlumePress | 25 comments My review is up (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...). I really enjoyed the build-up too, and accepted their connection. I do believe that love can overcome anything, especially since the 90s, but I thought in this book that the reincarnation premise was a bit of a weak device to explain Holly and Oliver's mysterious acceptance that they belong together. Now it seems to be a given, but maybe in the 90s we needed a bit more than a belief that love could rise above class differences.

Julie (gpangel) I'm sorry I am just now getting over here. My review was up a few weeks ago, but I forgot to post it here. The link is http://www.cluereview.blogspot.com
This was the usual contemporary romance written in the time frame this book was published in. It was a short, light read and I found it entertaining.

Andrea Guy (achickwhoreads) I loved Holly and Oliver's romance, even though Holly was too good for me. I agree with Lila about the reincarnation thing. I wanted something to come of that. I actually felt the book read like a 1970s Harlequin, rather than a book from the 90s. I'm 40. I've read romances from the 90s and this was exceptionally tame.

Wendy (wendyblue1) | 5 comments "Wait For Me" by Mary Kay McComas was originally published in 1994. It was re-issued in digital format by Open Road Integrated Media.
A fun and unusual romance where both main characters are total opposites.
Holly is a very giving, yet tad eccentric, woman who struggles to make ends meet. She spends all of her spare time volunteering at various organizations helping the needy. Oliver comes from a very wealthy, materialistic family and has a difficult time understanding Holly's drive to help the poverty-stricken and how she can put herself in constant danger. Can they grow to understand each other enough to make a relationship work?
There is an enchanting touch of the paranormal in the story leading us to wonder the role fate and destiny play in our lives.
