Magnus Chase has seen his share of trouble. Ever since that terrible night two years ago when his mother told him to run, he has lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, staying one step ahead of the police and the truant officers.

One day, Magnus learns that someone else is trying to track him down—his uncle Randolph, a man his mother had always warned him about. When Magnus tries to outmaneuver his uncle, he falls right into his clutches. Randolph starts rambling about Norse history and Magnus's birthright: a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.

The more Randolph talks, the more puzzle pieces fall into place. Stories about the gods of Asgard, wolves, and Doomsday bubble up from Magnus's memory. But he doesn't have time to consider it all before a fire giant attacks the city, forcing him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents. . . .

Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die.

First of all, can I just say I love these chapter titles. That's how I know this is going to be hilarious.

Chapter 10 - 12%
(view spoiler)[I'm really loving this book so far. Rick Riordan does not disappoint.

I just got to the part where Magnus dies, which I did not expect at all. Is he going to be dead for most of the book? I think that'd be pretty interesting, especially at this hotel he's staying at. I also love how he died and he just says "Then I died. The end," or something like that.

Also, Magnus is a very funny narrator. The mix of comedy and action makes this book fun to read. (hide spoiler)]

I love the chapter titles too! They're one of the best parts of Riordan's books, I think.

Chapter 35 - 50%

I'm glad that Sam came back, but is she the bad guy or not? I'm excited to find out who the real antagonist of the story is.

Magnus came back to Earth finally. I thought he'd spend the whole time at the hotel, but I guess not. I hope he comes back to it sometime later.

I was surprised at the part where it was revealed that the teens staying at the hotel fight to the death every day. I can't believe Magnus died again because of that! The descriptions of the battle surprised me at how dark it was. They die in battle and then come back, only to die the next day?

I can't wait to see what happens next. Also, I loved the part with the Squirrel. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1-4
(view spoiler)[ Annabeth! I didn't realize she was a part of this. I don't know what to think about Randolph. I have a feeling whatever he is saying that Magnus needs to get is really for him or something. No one else seems to trust him either. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4-11
(view spoiler)[ I still think Randolph wanted the sword for himself. Valhalla sounds awesome. Except for people randomly killing you sometimes. Magnus' mom sounds so sweet. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 15
(view spoiler)[ Yep Gunilla is a bully. I feel worse for Sam than Magnus. And it seems that facing the fire guy would be brave enough even if he just fell over the bridge. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 51 - 75%

I'm glad everyone is out of Valhalla now. I don't think I could've read a whole book that takes place in one setting.

So Magnus dies again. Or almost dies. The meeting with Loki was cool, even if they were on a boat of toenails. That was pretty gross.

Loved the part with the goats, especially Otis. He's a really funny character, even more so than Magnus I think.

The ending battle was so good! I was surprised that there were deaths at the end. And the reward that everyone got from Odin-- I'm glad that Magnus chose to stay with his new friends.

I can't believe that X was actually Odin! That was a good plot twist. I can easily give this book five stars.

I can't tell if she is genuinely trying to save them or if she is working with someone else. His floor mates were so cool. I love that there is such a variety in Valhalla. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ That was very clever of Magnus with Ran. He came up with a few stories, but I didn't think she would give it to him that easily. I wonder how he was able to even reel in the Midgard Serpent. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ OMG I love this goat! Right now I just feel sorry for Hearth. His parents are so horrible. Seems dumb to trust Loki, but he does make sense. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 21 (view spoiler)[ Something important happened 2 years ago. Magnus's mom died, Sam became a Valkyrie, and the Gods went silent. There is no way this is a coincedience. (hide spoiler)]

I never played Valhalla, but I looooooove Origins. That's my game. I love the gameplay and the story (and the cross-over with FFXV😜)

I still need to play Origins, that's the next one I'm going to do. I finished Odyssey and adored it! Valhalla is pretty fun so far.

I started Odyssey, but I never got far ( I didn't know what to do) and also I read 'The Adventures of Apollo ' at the same tiz, so visiting the Temple of Apollo in Odyssey was rather 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Personal Headcanon: Simon Lewis is a son of Apollo. It fits. He plays guitar and is good with a bow on. He also went to summer camp and is a ray of sunshine( also personal Headcanon: bisexual catastrophe)

I can't believe he died and is now in Valhalla, it sounds nice, nicer than the streets or homeless shelters he was used to. I wonder where his mom went. Magnus is a Valhalla because he has Norse blood from his father but what about his mother. I also wonder if the Dark one will come out again. Does his uncle know that Magnus goes to Valhalla?
